On the birthday of Lord Ganesh, Lord Shiva invited all the Gods and Goddesses to Kailash mountain. On the day of event, all the Gods and Goddesses arrived at the venue and started giving their love & blessing to Lord Ganesha. Lord Saturn was also invited. When all the Gods and Goddesses were finished with the blessing ceremony, mother Goddess Parvati noticed that only Lord Saturn was left to participate in the blessing ceremony.
She also noticed that Lord Saturn was standing alone in the corner. Goddess Parvati requested Lord Shiva to go and ask for a clarification for such an undesirable behavior. On Lord Shiva’s question, Lord Saturn humbly replied, “I am giving all my blessings to Lord Ganesha from my heart , but I cannot physically touch or look at him to bless him.” Lord shiva asked “Why can’t you do so?”
Lord Saturn replied, “My malefic vision can harm Lord Ganesha.” Hearing this, Lord Shiva replied, “Your malefic vision can only effect human beings. It will not work on Ganesha.”
Lord Saturn said, “You have yourself given me this boom that I have to give the results without any discrimination, then how can Gods escape from the effect of this boom. I cannot discriminate between Gods and humans.”
Lord Shiva asked in a very astonished manner, “Can your malefic vision affect me too?” Saturn said, “Yes my malefic vision can affect you too.”
After this conversation Lord Saturn said I would be coming tomorrow to meet you and prove that my malefic vision can harm you too. On the next day when Lord Saturn arrived at Kailash mountain, Lord Shiva was not present. Lord Shiva had an anxiety that probably Lord Saturn’s malefic vision might affect Him too and thus He went to some other place.
When Lord Saturn asked Goddess Parvati about the know how of Lord Shiva, She replied, “I have no idea of where Lord Shiva has gone.” Saturn replied, “Oh! I had promised the Lord to meet Him today. I would wait for Lord Shiva until he returns.
In the meantime, Lord Shiva went into the jungle and then thought, “Lord Saturn is in the habit of roaming around the three worlds, so there is a huge possibility, that He may arrive here too and locate me.”
Suddenly Lord Shiva saw few elephants eating grass and leaves. He thought that he should transform himself into an elephant to escape from the evil vision of Lord Saturn. Thinking this, Lord Shiva transformed himself into an elephant and started eating grass and leaves.
He stayed there for a whole day in the form of an elephant. When the evening came, He was satisfied that now Lord Saturn will not trouble him. Lord shiva again came back into his original form and left for Kailash. While on the way to Kailash, he encountered Lord Saturn who was returning from Kailash.
Lord shiva said, “Look Lord Saturn! The whole day went by and you could not harm me.” Saturn laughed and said “Mahadev, you had to spent an entire day being in the form of elephant and eating grass and leaves and still you are saying that you was not affected by me.”
As an effect of Saturn’s malefic vision, Lord Shiva was forced to live as an animal form for one entire day. Lord shiva then asked Saturn about the reason behind this. Lord Saturn replied, “You created a chaos at the yajna ceremony organized by Daksha. Can you recall?”
Lord shiva then smiled and accepted the greatness of Lord Saturn and his impartial judgement. One can very easily make out the power of Lord Saturn from this small story. When Lord Shiva can’t escape from His karma, how can we mere human beings can escape from it. Thus, one must perform special Sadhanas and rituals to appease the Lord.
It has been mentioned in Shastras that one can’t be certain when Saturn can harm any individual. Thus, it has been advised to worship Lord Saturn on every Saturday. Given below is one very short and highly effective Sadhana procedure related to Lord Saturn. This Sadhana should ideally be started from Shani Jayanti however if this not possible, a person can start the Sadhana from any Saturday too. The Sadhak must repeat the procedure on all the Saturdays throughout the year. This procedure doesn’t take more than ten to fifteen minutes.
Sadhana Procedure:
Get up early in the morning on the day of Shani Jayanti or on any Saturday and take a bath. Wear fresh black cloth and sit on a black mat facing North. Take a wooden plank and cover it too with a fresh piece of black cloth.
Place a picture of revered SadGurudev and offer water, rice grains, flower petals, vermillion etc. Light an oil lamp and an incense stick. Now chant one round of Guru Mantra and seek the blessings of Gurudev for success in Sadhana.
Next place Shani MahaYantra in front of Gurudev’s picture. This Yantra is energized with special mantras and is useful for the entire life. One point to take care of is that each member of the family must have their Yantra for performing the Sadhana. Now offer black sesame seeds and some jaggery on to the Yantra. Now chant Shani Strotra 11 times.

(6) Antaka, (7) Yama, (8) Sauri, (9) Shanishchara, (10) Manda
Dhwajini Dhaamini Chaiva Kankaali Kalah-Priya,
Kalahi Kantaki Chaapi Ajaa Mahishi Tunangamaa
Namani Shani-Bharyah Ya Nityam Japati Yah Pumaan,
Tasya Dhukhaani Nashyanti Sukham Saubhaaya Medhate.
Recite the following names of Lord Saturn’s wife 11 times if you have recited the names of Lord Saturn above.
(1) Dhvajini, (2) Dhaamini, (3) Kankaali, (4) Kalah-Priya, (5) Kalahi,
(6) Kantaki, (7) Ajaa, (8) Mahishi, (9) Tunagama
If a person chants Shani Strotra and Shani Bharya Strotra (or their names) 11 times on every Saturday, the person remains free from the unfavorable effects of Saturn and is instead blessed with the positive effects of Saturn.
Place the Shani Yantra at a safe place or in your worship place. If it fine if a person is unable to perform the above ritual on a given Saturday.
However, the person must try to repeat the procedure on all the Saturdays which brings all sorts of pleasure, wealth, fortune, name and fame in life. Not only this, the person remains away from forthcoming troubles in life.
One very important mantra has been mentioned about Lord Saturn which is very effective to appease the Lord. For the benefit of the Sadhaks, the mantra has been mentioned below. Chanting one round of the below mantra with black Hakeek rosary daily ensures gaining favors from Lord Saturn.
