Once there was a devotee of lord shiva, who was mad, but there was one good thing about him, he used to love lord Shiva in most pure manner, his dedication for lord Shiva was very high. He used to think that lord Shiva is his son.
One day, he came back to his home with some food collected from somewhere. He used to carry a Shivalinga with himself. He gave first slice of food to Shivalinga and said, “Eat it my dear!”. He waited for a couple of minutes and when he saw nothing happened, he again gave order to Lord Shiva, “Eat your food”.
He warned Lord Shiva multiple times to eat the food but nothing happened. He went furious and took a small stick and start beating lord Shiva. Mother Parvati was seeing all this, she asked, “What kind of devotee he is and how you can tolerate this insult my Lord?” Lord Shiva smiled and replied, “If my devotee is beating me out of love, I am ready to be beaten by him.” This is the level of his kindness and love towards his devotees!
Lord Krinsha has explained about the greatness of Lord Shiva in Mahabharata. He mentioned that learned people meditate on him as the supreme and eternal truth. He is famous as the lord of attachment. He is supreme of the supreme. He is the one without decay. He is the illustrious God who represents all that is true. He is without beginning and without destruction. He is the one who knows about all truth and ordinances. He is the lord who is the foremost Purusha.
He is the one who created Brahma, the creator of the worlds, from his right flank. He is the lord who created Vishnu, for the protection of the worlds, from his left flank. When the end of a yuga arrives, he is the lord who creates Rudra from his limbs. Rudra destroys everything in the universe, mobile and immobile. He is the immensely energetic Destroyer, the fire of destruction. This God, Mahadeva, is the creator of everything in the universe, mobile and immobile. At the end of a Kalpa, it has been said that everything will be withdrawn into him. You go everywhere. You are the soul of all creatures. You are Bhava, the creator who creates the creator of beings.
What else can be said about the great Lord who has been praised by Lord Krishna. And the favorite month of this lord is none other than Shraavan month which is special. Doesn’t Shraavan month bring a new joy in our life? On one hand, where everyone around us gets fed up with the heat waves and hotness, the arrival of monsoon brings a new energy. Everything around us gets so lively, we can see children dancing in the rain, we can see greenery all around ourselves, we can see different birds singing and dancing in the rain. It appears as if the natured reboots itself for someone special!
And for whom this reboot is done. Yes, the nature itself welcomes Lord Shiva and we human beings have learnt the same from nature. We all know that this complete month is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Lord who continuously bestows boons upon all His Sadhaks and devotees.
Any Sadhana performed during Shraavan month provides success. Lord Shiva is the one who gets pleased even if His devotee just piously remembers Him. If we look at the history, it has been Lord Shiva who has given the most numbers of boons. And what can be said about His devotees, the list is so huge that Gods, demons, humans, spirits or in other words, every creature of this nature gets a name in this list. Such is the simplicity of the great Lord.
It is also a fact that Kuber and Goddess Lakshmi worshipped Lord Shiva during this month and were able to attain such high stature. Thus, worshipping Lord Shiva during this month not only ensures a person gets blessed by Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, but the person is also blessed by Goddess Lakshmi & Lord Ganpati.
