We meditate on Lord Ganesha who is a symbol of purity, who is omnipresent, whose complexion is gray like that of ash, who has four arms, who has inner calm and happiness and who can destroy all obstacles.
The word “Gan” in Sanskrit means community & “Ganpati” thus means head of community. In other words, Lord Ganpati is the head of all the Gods & Goddess & thus assimilates the powers of all the Gods & Goddesses. He is worshiped as the first Lord, His wives are Riddhi & Siddhi & sons Subha & Labh. He is the son of Lord Shiva & Goddess Parvati. He can fulfill all the wishes & due to this reason, apart from normal human beings, He is revered even by other Gods.
It is a fact that remembering Lord Ganpati is equivalent to remembering all the Gods & Goddess. If one conveys the message to the head of an organization, the person need not talk to every other member. The head of the organization will surely convey the message to all the relevant stakeholders. Similarly, if a person can convey the message to Lord Ganpati, then that message is bound to reach other Gods & Goddesses.
The significance of Lord Ganpati can be understood by a small incidence. After reviving Lord Ganpati, Lord Shiva blessed Him that before starting any new endeavor, it is a must to worship Lord Ganpati & get his blessings.
However, later, Lord Shiva Himself forgot that the rule applied to him as well. On one such occasion, Lord Shiva headed out for a war with the demons and proceeded towards the battlefield along with His entire army. He forgot to worship Lord Ganesha before leaving for the battle. As a result, they started to face several problems even before reaching to the war ground. On the way to the location of the battle, the war-carriage wheel got damaged & everything came to a halt. This seemed like divine intervention to Lord Shiva & He suddenly realized that He totally forgot to worship Lord Ganpati prior to leaving for the battle.
He stopped His entire army & proceeded to perform the worship at that very moment & completed the rituals. After taking the blessings of Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva proceeded ahead and defeated the demons easily. This small incidence proves that Lord Ganpati is the foremost God, He is the one who takes care of this world and appears in various forms to help His devotees. When the great Lord Shiva had to worship Lord Ganpati to gain success in His endeavor, for sure we too need the blessings of Lord Ganpati in everyday life.
There are mainly eight incarnations & thirty-two forms of Lord Ganpati which are considered as His major forms & He appeared in these forms during different eras & circumstances. There are uncountable forms of Lord Ganpati & if we consider shastras then it is mentioned that Brahma has incarnated in the various forms of Lord Ganpati. Lord Ganpati’s essence is very secret. Great Sadhaks don’t just worship Lord Ganpati because He is considered as the one who removes all the hurdles or whether He is considered as the first worshipped God, but for the fact that He is an incarnation of Brahma, they worship His Omkar form.
It has been mentioned in GanpatyatharvaSheersha Upanishad that one who meditates on the form of Lord Ganpati becomes a great yogi in life. One doesn’t has to get distracted by His various forms or colors as these are His mere illusions. A Sadhak can meditate or perform Sadhana related to any of His forms & can attain complete success in it.
His elephant form & His vehicle being a rat holds far more significance than what we understand. It symbolizes that our thoughts are like a rat which keeps on wandering here & there. It can only be controlled by putting conscious efforts i.e. the concentration power should be as heavy (focused) as the weight of the elephant. We all know what miracles a concentrated mind can bring to this world. All the inventions that we see around are a result of concentrated minds only.
Lord Ganesha is always depicted in a state of peace & harmony. Every body part of Ganesha’s body teaches us something. Each element of Ganesha’s body has its own significance.
We all are householders & live a family life. We all have to face several challenges in our daily life. We need intelligence, wisdom, wealth, good health, power and what not to live a successful life.
One Lord who can bless us with all these fortunes of life is none other than Lord Ganpati. It is also a fact that worshiping Lord Ganpati removes all the hurdles from the life of the Sadhaks. Due to this reason, SadGurudev Kailash Shrimali Ji will be initiating the disciples with Varvarad Riddhi Siddhi Pradayak Ganpati Diksha which can help the disciples to get blessed with all the traits of Lord Ganesha. And as mentioned earlier, once Lord Ganesha is appeased with someone, then all other Gods & Goddess too bestow their blessings on the Sadhak.
Ganesha Chaturthi is the best time to appease Lord Ganpati & remove all the hurdles from the life. As rightly said by Shakespeare, “Men at some time are masters of their fates. The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings”, we all have this great opportunity to get blessed with this divine diksha & bring an end to our sufferings, hurdles, failures, poverty & dismays of life. Now, it is up to us to achieve something significant in life or just continue to curse our fortune!
