What is the difference between travel, a journey and a pilgrimage? People move from one place to another for a variety of reasons. There are explorers who are always looking for virgin land that they want to put their footprint on. They want to prove something. There are travelers who are curious to see everything, so they travel. There are tourists who just go to relax. There are other kinds of tourists who just go to escape from their work or family. But a pilgrim is not going for any of these purposes. A pilgrimage is not a conquest, it is a surrender. It is a way of getting yourself out of the way.
Pilgrimage is a sacred journey. It is a process that is not meant to simply get away from it all, but to allow oneself to encounter, see, and experience the Divine. This is accomplished by associating with holy people, visiting the holy places where the pastimes of the Divine have taken place, and where the sacred temples allow darshan: the Vision of the Supreme. Darshan is the process of approaching the Deity in the Temple in a state of spiritual communication, open and ready to receive sacred revelations. It means to see the Absolute Reality, and also to be seen by that Supreme Reality, God.
Pilgrimage means living very simple, and going toward what is holy and most sacred, and remaining focused on the opportunity of having a life-changing experience. In this way we will undergo voluntary austerities for purification to relieve ourselves from lifetimes of karma. This process will help change our consciousness and our perception of our spiritual identity and how we fit into this world, and help us gain access to the spiritual dimension through enlightenment.
And such a trip is being organized under the holy guidance of SadGurudev so that we can not only achieve all the materialistic pleasures of life, but also to create peace and harmony with our soul. This is the trip to meet with the true form of ourselves. This trip to the holy pilgrimage of Badrinath is a trip to leave behind all the shackles of the world and revive our souls so that a better person emerge out from us, a person who is more satisfied, who is more capable to change his or her fortune, who is more attached with the Guru and the one who has attained the proximity of Gurudev in life.
