The one who has the radiance of Agni, the one who shines with the power of penances, the one belonging to the supreme God, the illuminating one, the Shakthi who lies within karma and its course of actions. O Mother Goddess Durga, I bow to you and seek your refuge, please give us the power to overcome our challenges.
It is clearly mentioned in the Vedas that even the Trinity Gods – Brahma, Vishnu & Mahesha needs the powers of their consorts Goddess Saraswati, Goddess Lakshmi & Goddess Parvati, to perform their duties. These texts have given a special place to Goddess Shakti & have even mentioned that without Her presence, Lord Shiva is just like a corpse. Bhagwatpad Shankracharya has mentioned in his work, Saundarya Lahri, that if Lord Shiva is not supported by Goddess Shakti, He will not even be able to do any movement. Shakti is the spirit of Lord Shiva & similar to the way a dead person can’t move, Lord Shiva will become stagnant.
Then how can we human beings perform our duties properly without the grace of Mother Goddess? Undoubtedly, there is nothing which can be accomplished without the essence of power in this world. Due to this reason only, the Sadhanas of Goddess Shakti is recommended for everyone in life.
All the Gurus, all the Yogis, texts unanimously accept the fact that Mother Goddess can provide both material & spiritual growth. Mother Goddess protects her devotee from all perils & propels them towards highest levels of success. Still there are people who have strange, baseless fears in respect to this kind & benevolent form of Mother Shakti.
Many believe that even the slightest mistake in Sadhana could incur a divine wrath in place of a boon. However, all these are false assumptions. Great Guru Shankaracharya said about the Goddess that – Kuputro Jaayet Kvachidapi Kumaataa Naa Bhavati. It means that the devotee may be a sinner, yet for the loving mother, he is as eligible for her grace as Her pious children. She never discriminates & showers her affection to all those who asks for Her help.
It has been experienced by the sadhaks & yogis that enemies, sorrows, pain or diseases cannot harm a devotee of Mother Goddess. The life of such an individual remains brimming with joy, laughter, comforts & pleasures. He gets whatever he desires – wealth, fame, prosperity & even spiritual enlightenment. Bhogam Cha Moksham Cha Karasth Ev, which is stated in ancient texts which means that the devotee of Mother Goddess is bestowed with both spiritual & worldly pleasures.
Every atom of this universe is energized with the essence of Mother Goddess. Generally, there is no special time for which a person should wait to appease the Mother Goddess, as the person is just like a small child who doesn’t wait & calls up on the mother whenever he or she is in pain. Like the mother who doesn’t bother about any thing & quickly comes to rescue her child, the Mother Goddess too always protects Her children. However, there are certain auspicious times during which it is easier to get the blessings of Mother Goddess & one such time is Gupt- NavRatris.
When the Mother Goddess is Herself willing to fulfill all the desires of the sadhak, then all that remains at the sadhak’s end is to just follow the correct procedure to obtain Her blessings during these days. She is the one who provides all the worldly pleasures to the Gods. Great sadhaks & sages have appeased Her & were able to witness the ParBrahma by Her grace. Even Lord Ram performed Shakti Tatva sadhana of Mother Goddess to win over Ravana.
Mother Goddess has the same divine form as that of a mother. She is not just a Goddess, She is not just a mother but has several forms. When the Gods found it difficult to protect themselves from the demons, a divine power emerged from the body of all the Gods & took the form of Goddess Jagdamba.
She is the one with eight hands decorated with various weapons, has a divine aura, who sits on a lion, one who can defeat any enemy & the one who safeguards the Gods. The Gods were left mesmerized looking at this divine form & Her war cry brought fear in the hearts of the demon. The Gods also realized that the Goddess is motherly & has the powers of Goddess Kali, Goddess Lakshmi & Goddess Saraswati.
She is the omnipresent & can provide any boon to Her devotees. She is the one who can remove all the problems & troubles from our life. She is incomparable to anyone & is the epitome of greatness. She possesses the powers to both destroy as well as nurture. On one hand She can kill the demons & on the other hand She takes care of Her devotees & Sadhaks just like a loving mother.
Without any doubt, all the sadhaks must utilize this time to gain the blessings of Goddess during this sacred time.
