When we talk of Sadhanas, we do not mean becoming serious and not allowing even a trace of amusement on our faces. Our Rishis sure knew how to live a life to its fulfillment and this is why they also devised Sadhanas that could add beauty, art, music and dance to our life. Even, our Gods are not those beings whose only business is to punish the evils, rather their own lives are very good example of how life ought to be lived.
Lord Shiva is the God who is an epitome of totality and instead of calling him Dev (God), we rather call him Mahadev (the greatest God). His numerous forms touch upon the various aspects of life. As Rudra, he destroys the evil and as Vaidhyanath he banishes ailments. He appears in so many forms that it would take many pages to write about all of them.
One of his forms is that of Nataraj – the Divine Dancer performing Taandava Dance. This dance has two forms: Pralay Taandava which is performed by the Lord when he destroys the evil and Aananda Taandava when he is in a joyous mood.
Dance, along with music, in fact is the greatest means of expressing the joy of one’s heart and soul. They uplift the spirit and make one feel light and happy. They are wonderful means of banishing the poison of worries and stress and elixir of joy and peace starts flowing from within.
Aananda Taandava Sadhana of Lord Shiva is a wonderful ritual through which a Sadhak can banish boredom, laziness, indolence, worries and tensions from his life and instill into a divine freshness. It is also an amazing ritual through which professional dancers and musicians can become skilled in their arts. I am a witness of a danseuse attaining worldly fame and recognition through this Sadhana, which revered SadGurudev revealed to her.
This Sadhana is a must for every Sadhak as it can help one to remain fresh, joyous and unsullied even in the poisonous atmosphere just like a lotus that remains untainted by the mud in which it grows. Whatever one’s field is, one could use this Sadhana to instill new enthusiasm and the drive to achieve success, in spite of all odds.
This Sadhana should be performed on Shiv Ratri this year or on any Monday. Take a bath after 9 p.m. in the night and wear white clothes. Sit on a white mat facing North or North-East. Cover a wooden seat with fresh white cloth. Place some white flowers in a copper plate and place Natraj Yantra over it. Now offer rice grains and vermilion on the yantra. Then make sixteen marks on the yantra with vermilion chanting Om Namah Shivaaya. Each time you make a mark, contemplate that one by one the divine sixteen virtues are being instilled into your body so that you could live your life full of joy and happiness. Light a ghee lamp and chant one round of Guru Mantra. Thereafter chant five rounds of this Mantra with Rudraaksh Rosary.
Offer the rosary and the yantra in a temple of Lord Shiva or drop them in a river or pond the next morning. This is a Sadhana that can bring about a wonderful transformation in your life and make you dance through the problems and adversities of life. This ritual enables one to offer all the poisons of his life in the feet of Lord Shiva and gaining divine elixir that makes one capable of mocking at the face of various anxieties
