Shraavan Month: 6th July to 3rd August
In the current era, sadhanas of Lord Shiva is the greatest boon for the humankind. Lord Shiva is one of the most easily pleased Gods and bestows all sorts of boons on His sadhaks. What else can be said about Lord Shiva, the only God for whom the nature has dedicated an entire month. This year, Shraavan month has brought us five Mondays and that means we can perform a different sadhana in related to Lord Shiva on each Monday. If we look it from another perspective, we can get five different boons from Lord Shiva during this holy month. A wise sadhak is one who grabs any opportunity that comes his or her way and takes full advantage.
Lord Shiva is no ordinary God; He is very mysterious and his ways can never be interpreted by the earthly norms and definitions. Even though He is a householder, yet He is worshiped as a Yogi, He grants all sorts of boons, yet He takes delight in staying the crematory grounds and is fully satisfied wearing an animal skin and a skull garland.
He is always accompanied by a large battalion of fierce looking demons which are also blood thirsty and can devastate anything with a sweeping operation. The entire troop of Lord Shiva and his army are so strange and are constantly engaged in carrying out the missions of the Lord in all the known worlds and also beyond.
Though Lord Shiva is known better to most people as a ferocious God, he has another mysterious side too – he is known to spend long periods of time in deep meditation in the lofty Himalayas. This absolute silence and stillness on one hand and the vibrant and ferocious exploits on the other hand make is very hard to understand what His original nature is. Thus, looking from several angles, there is a great confusion regarding the nature of Lord Shiva.
Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of the Linga some of which are jyotirlingas – at numerous places across India. The Linga, a sign of masculinity, symbolizes Shiva’s role in the creation, execution and withdrawal of the Universe.
Lord Shiva, similar to Lord Vishnu, had many avatars. It was Virabhadra, an avatar of Lord Shiva, who disrupted Daksha’s yajna and cut off his head. His Bhairava avatar, also known as Kaal Bhairava, was created to protect the Sati Pinds. His Durvasa avatar was famous for his short temper. Khandoba was another avatar of Shiva known in Maharashtrian and Kannada cultures. Finally, Hanuman avatar is known as the eleventh Rudraavtaar of Lord Shiva in the era of Lord Rama!
Shiva has also been called a ‘Maha Yogi’ because he meditates for hours for the well-being of the universe. His calm state of mind gets disturbed only due to extreme reasons, but otherwise, He always remain in a meditative state of mind. Thus highlighting the fact that one can win half the battle just by being calm in a stressful situation. It’s really the best strategy to sorting out any problem.
In this month’s edition, we are presenting two sadhanas related to Lord Shiva which should be performed during the first two Mondays of the Shraavan month. We will be sharing three more sadhanas for the remaining Mondays of Shraavan month in the next edition.
The first Monday should be used to gain good health. It’s wisely said that the first pleasure of life is good health as only a person with good health can enjoy anything else in life. One form of Lord Shiva is also called Baidnath and hence worshipping the Lord in this form can help a person to get rid of all sorts of diseases. Not only this but a person can also obtain a good personality, attraction and glow on the face by the grace of Lord Shiva.
One needs “Baidnath Yantra” and “Kaamdev rosary” for this sadhana. Get up early on the day and take a bath. Get into fresh white cloth and sit on a white mat facing north. Place a picture of revered SadGurudev and worship Him with vermillion, rice grains, flowers etc. Light a ghee lamp and an incense stick. Then chant one round of Guru Mantra with the Kaamdev rosary and pray to Gurudev for success in sadhana.
Next place a copper plate in front of Gurudev’s picture and put Baidnath yantra on it and worship it with vermillion, rice grains, flowers and offer some sweet. Now chant 5 rounds of the mantra below.
|| Om Vam Rati Priyaayai Mam Rog Naashaaya Phat ||
।। ॐ वं रति प्रियाय मम रोग नाशाय फट् ।।
Offer all the sadhana articles in a river or pond the next day. This completes the sadhana procedure.
Once after performing the sadhana for good health, the person should utilize the second Monday for winning over the enemies. Our enemies are not only in human form, theat can also be in the form of poverty, struggles, day to day challenges that come in our path which drains out our energy. On one hand, where Lord Shiva is a quick appeasing God, He is also a fearsome warrior.
His various forms like Bhairav, Veerbhadra etc. are all capable to demolish even the toughest opponents. Then how can our enemies stand before us if we are graced by the benevolent Lord.
