Gurudev’s Incarnation Day : 18-Jan-2021
RamKrishna Paramhans was able to attain great feats in his life. However, there was one thing still missing, He was unable to get into a state of deep meditation, devoid of all the world. The moment He used to hear or speak the word Kali and close His eyes, He used to clearly see the Goddess appearing before Him. He wanted to taste the elixir of Nirvana but was unable to remove his focus from the image of the Goddess!
Saint Totapuri visited Kolkata during this phase and when RamKrishna Paramhans knew about His arrival, he planned to visit Totapuri. RamKrishna Paramhans bowed down to Totapuri and told about his misery. He accepted him as his Guru and seek his guidance to get rid of this situation. Listening to his discomfort, saint Totapuri said, “The next time, you try to meditate and Goddess Kali appears before you, you must cut Her by a sword into two pieces.”
This was something which was least expect from saint Totapuri. RamKrishna Paramhans said, “How can I do this? I can’t cut Her into two pieces. She is my beloved mother.”
To this, Totapuri said, “If you want to witness the ParBrahma, if you want to attain nirvana, you will have to do it, else you will never be able to attain completeness in life.”
The next question that arose in the mind of RamKrishna Paramhans was, “From where will I get a sword?” To this Totapuri said, “You need to imagine it in your mind when you try to meditate the next time.”
So, RamKrishna Paramhans decided to follow the guidelines of Totapuri. However, the moment he went into mediation, Goddess Kali appeared before him and tears started to flow out of his eyes. He couldn’t think of anything beyond the love towards the mother Goddess and forgot about attacking Her with the sword. Time and again, the more he tried to meditate, the more Goddess Kali appeared prominently before him and every time he couldn’t find any conscience to pull out the sword and do the deed.
Days passed away like this and the day when saint Totapuri had to depart from Kolkata were approaching quickly. So, saint Totapuri told RamKrishna Paramhans, “It looks like you will not be able to do it alone. The next time when Goddess Kali appears before you, I will guide you.”
So, when RamKrishna meditated the next time and the moment tears started to ooze out of his eyes, Totapuri took up a piece of glass from the road and made a cut on RamKrishna’s forehead. Automatically, RamKrishna got the consciousness of a sword in his hand and the hand followed the direction of glass piece on his forehead. With on swift move, RamKrishna Paramhans was able to cut the imagination of Goddess Kali in two halves and fell into deep mediation for more than six hours that day. When he came back to his consciousness, he fell into the holy feet of his Guru, saint Totapuri and offered his reverence towards him.
What Totapuri did to RamKrishna was definitely painful, but the end results were far more rewarding. This is what a SadGuru do to his disciples; he provides him the utmost knowledge by attacking his illusions, his bad habits and removes the shackles from the disciples’ life. It is definitely a painful procedure as the disciples have learnt to live comfortably with those shackles and considers them as their ornaments. These shackles can be in the form of our family, our greed, our lust or any such thing which holds us back in our lives.
A SadGuru directly targets those weaknesses of a disciple to make him or her a better individual who can help the coming generations. Isn’t it true with SadGurudev Kailash Ji who time and again guides us on to the path which we find difficult to proceed up on, but once followed and looked back over a period of some time, we know that those are the best decisions of our lives. A SadGuru knows what is best for His disciples and thus gives them commands accordingly. Those who can follow His guidance are the fortunate ones who can witness the nirvana and those not, are the ones who remain disillusioned throughout the life.
18th January is the incarnation day of our revered SadGurudev Shri Kailash Chandra Shrimali Ji and it is our duty to offer our love, wishes and gratitude towards Him on this day. Who knows, just out of love and devotion, like saint Totapuri, SadGurudev might guide us on to a path which can help us to attain the goals of our lives. And what else will be left to be attained if a disciple gets blessed from his SadGuru on His incarnation day?
