Chaitra Navraatri: 6 April – 14 April
Bhavani Twam Daase Mayi Vitar Drishtim Sakarunaamiti
Stotum Vaanchhan Kathayati Bhavaani Twamiticha
O Bhagwati! Please shower your favor on me who is your most unworthy servant,
my wicked soul is getting eager to offer my feeling in your sacred feet again and again.
– Adi Shankaracharya
This world is controlled by a supreme power and this power is generally termed as Mother Goddess Amba. She is the supreme power and even the Gods take Her shelter when they are in trouble. She is the combined form of Mother Goddess Parvati, Mother Goddess Lakshmi and Mother Goddess Saraswati. These Goddesses are power of Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma. These Mother Goddesses are the one who enables these supreme Lords to function their work properly.
To live a happy life, one needs knowledge, wealth and power. An imbalance between any of these brings dissatisfaction in life. One might have a lot of wealth but if doesn’t have the knowledge to use it properly or doesn’t have the power to safeguard it, the wealth cannot be retained. Similarly, if a person has a lot of knowledge but doesn’t have enough money to fulfill one’s need, then there is no use of such a knowledge. Even if that person has wealth but doesn’t have power, one can’t attain greatness in life as to accomplish anything great one needs a lot of power. On the other hand if a person is powerful but lacks knowledge and wealth, then such a person lives a live of hardship only and serves other. If such a person has wealth, then the person can be seen to indulge in all sorts of wrong deeds as the person doesn’t have the knowledge to use the power and wealth properly. A better condition is to have power and knowledge; yet this condition is also not very favorable as these kind of persons are normally utilized by other rich men to serve them.
Thus it becomes very clear that one needs a balance of all these three divine powers to live a life of satisfaction that is full of knowledge, wealth and power. There is a normal misconception that power just means physical strength whereas power is a very generic word which at a gross level is associated with physical strength. We can see that even in our day to day activity we use terms like, that person delivered a powerful speech or this person has very powerful financial status or someone known to us has a great will power. In none of these terms, there is any association of power related to physical strength. In all these cases, the term is either related to our mental strength or oratory skill or our financial condition. Even, we generally use terms like “word power”, “strong mental power”, “Kundalini power” and so on. All these powers are in one way or other associated with these divine Mothers.
Once, Shankaracharya the great, was suffering from illness and had become very weak. During one of these days, an old lady met Him on a path. She was standing next to a big pile of woods and was expecting someone to help her. She requested Shankaracharya to help her with the bundle of woods to put it on her head. Shankaracharya politely replied, “Mother! I am very sick and feeling weak. I am extremely sorry but I will be of no help to you”. Listening this, the lady replied, “Definitely! How will you be able to gain power as you have not appeased me”. This old lady was none other than Goddess AdiShakti, who then guided Shankaracharya to perform Shakti Sadhanas to gain power in life.
Only after this incident, Shankaracharya included Shakti sadhanas in His life and was able to perform so much within a short life of 32 years. He dedicated one of His work, “Saundarya Lahari” in the praise of Mother Goddess. Shankaracharya was able to assimilate the powers of the Goddess Trinity and that was the main reason behind His success. He was able to revive the Sanatana Dharma again by travelling across the entire country on his foot which needed physical strength. He constructed the four Dhams at the four corners of the country which proves that He had abundance of wealth. Not only this, He was able to abolish the poverty of a poor Brahmin woman by creating a rain of gold coins in her house. He was blessed by Goddess Saraswati too and the proof was that He was able to defeat everyone who challenged Him in debates. His knowledge can also be proven by the fact that He created several texts for the betterment of the human beings.
Our Gurudev is not someone who just tells us stories from ancient texts or narrate the meaning of our holy scriptures. He has dedicated His entire life to revive our ancient science and to bring out the benefits of sadhanas for the general public. It is the common human beings who needs the blessings of Mother Goddesses more than those sages and saints who are spending their lives detached from this entire world in some remote caves. It is the common human being who needs power of wealth to feed and look after the needs of their family, it the same common human being who needs power to protect oneself as well as the family from all sorts of troubles and it is the same common human being who needs the power of knowledge to perform these tasks properly.
One can’t recite “Ram-Ram” or “Hare Krishna-Hare Murari” if there are pain and sufferings in the life. Such a person can’t focus on meditation or prayers as his or her entire focus remains on that problem. Can you perform a sadhana if your child is very ill and weeping in pain? Can you perform your prayers if your family is hungry for days? Will you be able to focus on your spiritual growth if your physical form is in a bad shape? The answer to all these questions is a big “NO”. So, how can we gain that eternal blessing to achieve something worthy in life. And again, it is the Guru who comes to the rescue here. There is no one more merciful than a Guru and due to this reason only the Guru has been termed as an incarnation of Param Brahma, the ultimate Lord.
A Guru can’t see His disciples in pain and out of His pure love He transfers His hard earned divine power into His disciples so that they can get rid of their pain and sufferings in life. We all know how much capable we are and how much success we can attain when we perform any sadhana. The main point behind our failures is again this very fact that there is an imbalance of these three powers in our life and to attain success in each and every format of life we need to balance out these three forces. Thus, Gurudev has decided to bestow His blessings in the form of JagatJanani TriShakti Diksha on the occasion of this Navaratri so that our main energies get activated and we are able to create a balance between all three of them. And just like Shankaracharya, who was able to perform great tasks in His life, we will be able to meet our goals and fill our lives with happiness, success, wealth, knowledge and thus become powerful in true senses.
