‘Hath Yog Pradipika’ explains six methods through which the body can attain perfect health, and out of these Traatak is undoubtedly the most wounderful. Traatak is a process of staring courteously at something without blinking the eye. It not only increases the concentration of a person but also endows his eyes unique radiance.
The highest advantage of this process is that all innumerable thoughts crowding the mind of a person are effaced and finally the mind is concentrated on a single object. Traatak is a basic practice of science of hypnotism as it also helps in accentuating the hypnotic power of the eyes.
Those who are well-versed in spot-vision(Traatak) can –
The Duration of Traatak should be increased slowly. When the eyes start watering or feel tired one should discontinue the process for sometime and close one’s eye to give rest. Thereafter one may again proceed with it. Traatak is said to be perfected only when a person is able to look at an object continuously for 32 minutes without blinking one’s eyes.
Ordinarily practice of Traatak can be done sitting in Padmasan or Sukhasan. Some of the practices are done while standing.
Types of spot-vision(Traatak)
Close Traatak has been further divided into following types-
One of the leading exponents of this practice in modern times in Malcom Bessent, who through deep concentration of his inner vision has developed the Paranormal ability to ‘dream’ the future. He goes into a sleep induced trance-like state, also known as Rapid Eye Movement Sleep in which he is virtually asleep except that his thought process is very much active. In such a state the envisions or ‘Dreams’ certain sequence which he is able to recall if immediately woken up. Experiments were conducted by sceptic scientists, when words spread that he could dream the future. And to their amazement the results confirmed this. Fourteen out of sixteen times his divination proved true. In a particular experiment he dreamed that he was in a Health Food Restaurant. Next he saw a procession which looked like a marriage party. His thoughts waves were being tapped by the experimenters with the help of sensitive electrodes taped to his temples. Slightest change indicate that he had entered Rapid Eye Movement sleep and was dreaming. Later he was woken up and his narration recorded.
Next Morning he was led to the food Restaurant of the hospital breakfast. He had never been there before, but immediately he related the place to the one he had seen in dream. Excitedly he pointed to a picture on the wall that depicted a marriage procession. The people in it wore same costumes that he had earlier described.
Here in India the powers the mind and soul have been recognized since thousands of years. There still are Yogis in Himalayas who can tell all about a person’s past and future by merely looking at his or her face. Swami Pranavanand who lived till very recently in Gir Forests, had the amazing powers of foreseeing the future, many politicians, businessmen used to make a beeline for his place to get valuable hints about their future. But ultimately he got disgusted by all the commotion and disappeared from the place. The `swami could perform even Sun Traatak and had trained several households too in this secret practice, which is best and safely mastered only under proper guidance of an accomplished master.
Close Spot-Vision
This can be practiced with the help of different objects kept at a distance of five feet. Before commencing Traatak a person should exercise the nerves of eyes.
Sit at Sukhaasan and without moving your head, move your eyeballs from left to right, up and downwards, and then rotate them in a clockwise or anti-clockwise manner. Finally close your eyes to give them some rest.
The best time to practice Close- Traatak is between 04:00 a.m. to sunrise but Agni(fire) Traatak is practiced during night. The different form of Close-Traatak are as under.
Statue Traatak
Before beginning this practice Traatak on a Sphartic, Shivling or a white round stone kept at a distance of two feet.
After a few days take a statue four inches in length. If a statue is not available your can use a picture but it should not be coloured. Keep the statue/picture three feet away from you. Then begin Traatak and continue till your eyes start to water. Then close your eyes for sometime and try to concentrate on the statue by mental vision.
Repeat this at least 20-25 times. Within a few days you will be able to form mental image of the statue/picture and perform spot-vision on it.
In the beginning, on closing your eyes you will visualize the status with many others things but with repeated practice you will soon be able to concentrate merely on the statue. Once your are successful you will be able to visualize desired events, people and objects.
Regular Practice of Statue Traatak helps in activicating the glands related to the ‘Third Eye’, thereby fully opening it.
