Shravan Somvaar: 16th July to 15th August
Pravar Ashubh Iv Bhaati
Shiv Kalyaann Raashi
A trident or a skull in the hands, a snake around the neck, ashes smeared on the whole body, a tiger skin around the waist, the long hair wild and loose, eyes red with fury- there is nothing in His personality that is appealing and yet He is the Lords of all Gods and deities, and the most exalted among all Yogis……..!
Once appeased, he bestows on a devotee more wealth than is present in the coffers of even Kuber, the god of worldly riches otherwise He would not allow anyone to take away even a pinch of ash from the funeral ground where He lives, and which is his favourite Sadhna place.
One of his eye ever keep showering divine love, while the other keeps burning red with Divine fury.
Each moment He is totally unattached and lost in divine ecstasy, and in the same moment He is fully aware and omnipresent.
Words have been produced from the beats of his divine percussion instrument Damru, and from this very sound has been produced music upon which he dances in supreme joy. But unlike any other deity his dance is not mere entertainment. It is a unique dance called Taandav! Taandav does not mean writhing and moving about in stranger patterns, rather it means the enlivening of each cell of the body and becoming one with the nature.
The Taandav done by him in moments of joy or to create an atmosphere of joy is known as Anand Taandav And the fiery dance done by him when He is offended by something or someone is known as Pralaya Taandav. And the nature harmonises there two forms of Taandavs in its activities.
Taandav can only be performed by a Purush or a man. And is it possible to create without a Purush?
Why is it that Lord Shiva is the most respected and worshipped among the Indian populace in spite of being so controversial a persona and having strange forms?
As soon as an image of Lords appears before the eyes one feels linked to his soul.
This is because of the knowledge gained from folk tales and tradition that he ever keeps showering upon us his affection.
Affection is a unique feeling in itself and is it not but Lord Shiva’s affection that he keeps interfering in nature sometimes through the means of Anand Taandav and sometimes through Pralaya Taandav?
Otherwise one who ever remains lost in divinity has no need to do this.
Taandav means creation of positive vibrations by transformation of one’s anger with a view to get some desired results. And it is important to note here that anger is seldom positive.
The opening of the third Eye of Lord Shiva is related in the various religious tales is symbolic of this very creative and positive anger.
Positive anger means refraining from use of abusive words and violence and getting the desired work done by interfering in nature by redirecting the thoughts of anger produced in the brain to the Third eye and expressing the energy through it.
Such a positive anger is not possible in the lives of unenlightened individuals or those who have no idea in life, for such people instead of trying for a change in their lives believe in dragging on with their lives as they are.
Anger and affection are two sides of the same coin. And both these emotions together find place in the personalities of Lord Shiva and Sadgurudev, who is Shiva incarnate in this Age.
Where there exist no affection how and why shall anger rise?
In fact it is very difficult to understand the Natraaj form of Lord Shiva in which he performs Taandav. But one cannot be a true Sadhak if one is discouraged by difficulties.
It is in this very form of Lord Shiva that his true divinity and Siddhis are hidden. The great master of Tantra, Ravan realised this fact and hence he performed the Sadhna of no other form of the Lord but his Natraaj form.
It was during the accomplishment of this Sadhna that Ravan composed the famous hymn, Shiv Taandav Stotra. Without doubt the success that Ravan had attained through this Sadhna was
unique and most Sadhaks cannot even dream of achieving such levels of success. And the Sadhana that he had performed had been Natraaj Sadhana.
But Ravan had forgotten that just as affection unsupplemented by anger is nothing more than pity, similarly anger which lacks affection is nothing but bestiality.
The Natraaj Sadhana of Lord Shiva aims at striking a balance between affection and anger in the life of a Sadhak- not for fulfilling some particular aim but for development of one’s personality.
Every person knows how to perform Taandav, especially when his wife has made some exorbitant demand or the senior officer has remonstrated one before the entire staff. But such anger is not positive and its display proves futile. In other words the Taandav is not elegant or divine like the one performed by Lord Shiva.
Revered Sadgurudev once said in a discourse Who are you I will see that you, ….! Shouting thus or shaking fists at someone or glaring at someone in anger. Anger is that which results in something creative, just like the anger of sage Viswamitra that resulted in creation of new universe. Anger is not symbolic of destruction but some new creation. And only the dead are free of anger.
Taandavit Nritya Par Damaru Dimim Parvar Adhubh Iv Bhaati Shiv Kalyaannraashi
The form of Lord Shiv no doubt is fearsome but he is very kind and affectionate and blesses one with well being.
If one wishes to destroy evil from this world one shall have to assume a fearsome form, for the evil souls do not understand civilised words.
It is very interesting to note that although the recent test are filled with the Sadhnas of other form of Lord Shiva, yet there is no Sadhna of the Natraaj form in them.
Does this not mean that ever since the society started to neglect Sadhnas it forget the essence of the Natraaj form and considered Lord Shiv as a deity ever lost in the intoxicating influence of Bhang (cannbis)?
Natraaj Sadhana can mean a different thing to a highly spiritual Yogi and quite another thing to an ascetic, but what is unanimously accepted is that Natraaj Sadhana is a unique ritual for attaining to Shivhood.
It is very important Sadhna for every devotee of Lord Shiv and presented here is a process through which Sadgurudev once helped his disciples gain success in this Sadhna.
This Sadhna can be tried in the month of Shravan starting from 16 July. It can be tried on any Monday during Shravan month to the 13th day of dark fortnight of any month too. The Sadhak should accomplish the ritual in the evening after sunset or at night.
One should have a Shiv Yantra and a Rudraksh rosary for this Sadhna.
Wear white clothes after having had a bath. Sit on a wooden mat facing north.
Place the Yantra in a copper plate before yourself. First of all bathe the Yantra with water, wipe it dry and place it back in copper plate. Next offer flowers and unbroken rice grains(akshat) on the Yantra and chant the Mantra’s below. Repeat the mantra five times-
Taandav Priye! Taandav Manovillasine! Ihaavah Ihaavah, Ih Tishtth Ih Tishtth, Ih
Sannidhehi Ih Tishtth Ih Tishtth, Ih Sannidhehi Ih Sannidhehi, Ih Sannishasva,
Yaavat Poojaam Karomyaham. Om Satchitroopenn Sah Aanand Taandavaayei
Namah. Om Aanand Taandavaayei Sah Pralaya Taandavaayei Sah Annand
Taandavaayei Namah.
Om Pralaya Taandavaayei Sah Aanand Taadavaayei Namah.
Etat Paadhyei Taandavini Trilochanaay Namah.
There after take some flowers and rice grains from these offered and touch them to your forehead and then chant just eleven round of following Mantra. With Rudraksha rosary-
Om Hroom Namah Namah Shivaay Namah
Shivaay Sah Chetanyei Nrim Sadaashivaay Sadaashivaay.
After chanting of the mantra rest at the very spot for some time. This is a single day Sadhna. After a month drop the yantra and the rosary in a pond or a river or in Sadhgurdev’s feet at Jodhpur or Delhi Gurudham.
Because Lord Shiva is the creator of Saabar mantra and because this is a Saabar mantra this Sadhna is very powerful and effective which the Sadhak can himself experience by trying it.
For a Sadhak of lord Shiva success in the spiritual world comes only after he has first accomplished Natraaj Sadhna, no mater how much water he has offered to a Shivling in his entire life time.
