Shaardiye Navraatri : 17th October – 25th October
Shive Sarvarte Sadhika
Sharanye Trayambake Gauri,
Narayani Namostute
The One who bestows auspiciousness on everyone, the One who accomplishes all objectives, to the Mother of the three worlds, O Gauri, I bow again and again to you.
Goddess Jagadamba is the mother of the entire universe. She is the one who protects Her sadhaks just like a mother safeguards her newly born child. That small child is unaware of everything – he doesn’t understands mother’s love, nor does he understands the pain the mother has taken to bring him or her in this world and neither does the child understands the amount of pain and sufferings a mother has to go through if the child has to face any problem. And due to this reason only, the child remains untroubled, the child sleeps fearlessly in the lap of the mother and the mother safeguards, nurtures and guides the child without feeling any sort of pain.
Goddess Jagadamba has the same divine form as that of a mother. She is not just a Goddess, She is not just a mother but has several forms. When the Gods found it difficult to protect themselves from the demons, a divine power emerged from the body of all the Gods and took the form of Goddess Jadamba. She is the one with eight hands decorated with various weapons, has a divine aura, who sits on a lion, one who can defeat any enemy and the one who safeguards the Gods. The Gods were left mesmerized looking at this divine form and Her war cry brought fear in the hearts of the demon. The Gods also realized that the Goddess is motherly and has the powers of Goddess Kali, Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswati.
She is the omnipresent and can provide any boon to Her devotees. She is the one who can remove all the problems and troubles from our life. She is incomparable to anyone and is the epitome of greatness. She possess the powers to both destroy as well as nurture. On one hand She can kill the demons and on the other hand She takes care of Her devotees and sadhaks just like a loving mother.
Markandeya was a great sage and has captured various salient details related to Goddess Jagadamba in Markandeya Puran. He mentioned that Goddess Jadamba is the form of Lord Shiva because Shiva can exists only where there is Shakti. They can’t be analyzed separately as they exists in an amalgamated form. A coward person can’t attain greatness as he can’t do anything significant in life. To create something worthy, one needs to be powerful, one needs to be creative, one needs to be an accomplisher and all this is possible only by the grace of Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti. As Goddess Jadamba is a provider of knowledge, power, wisdom, etc., She is considered to be the divine form of Shiva-Shakti.
All those who are a follower of Lord Shiva, they must also worship Goddess Shakti as Lord Shiva is not different than Goddess Shakti. Similarly, a sadhak who wants to appease Goddess Shakti, he or she must worship Lord Shiva too. A person who is able to appease Goddess Jadamba in Her entirety is also able to appease Lord Shiva and such a person gains the power to win over the three worlds. No scarcity, problems, tensions etc. can exist in the life of such a sadhak. Instead of worshiping or performing sadhanas of several Gods and Goddesses, if one just performs sadhana of Goddess Jadamba, then the sadhak is able to appease all the Gods and Goddesses in life. The reason behind this the fact that Goddess Jadamba is the unified form of the divine energies that emerged out of these Gods and Goddesses.
This is the reason why the shastras have termed Goddess Jagdamba is epitome of life, the completeness of life.
Worshiping other Gods and Goddesses instead of worshiping Goddess Jagadamba is like watering a leaf and expecting the plant to get green. Goddess Jagadamba can be worshiped by Yogis, Tantriks, householders and everyone. She can be appeased by mantras, chanting hymns, Tantra, procedures of Aghor Panth and Nath Panth and all other Panths. On one hand, where the sadhanas of other Gods and Goddesses is tough, the sadhana of Goddess Jagadamba is simple and can be performed by even a child and is easy to obtain success in it. One can perform Goddess Jagadamba sadhana to attain wealth, knowledge, safety or any other thing in life. It has also been observed that the sadhak starts to get expected results by the time the sadhana is about to complete.
