Guru is termed as the center of everything, He is considered as the essence of life, even Gods felt the need of a Guru and due to this reason they considered Brihaspati as their Guru, even the demons felt the need of a Guru and due to this reason they considered Shukaracharya as their Guru. Without any doubt, Guru is the crux of life, even though if a person is born with all the misfortunes, if he gets initiated by a SadGuru, even the Gods become jealous of such a person.
One can achieve totality in life only by traversing the path shown by a SadGuru. Guru is the only person who can give you spiritual and material fulfillment in life. Presented below is one of great speeches delivered by SadGurudev on the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Ganesham Vadaamyae Mahashreshtha Rudram,
Lakshmi Varenya Bhavataam Paresham.
Taam Shabda Dev Bhavtaam Bhava Devroopam,
Vighneshwaraaya Varadaaya Vade Sadaanyam.
Today, on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, I have started my speech with a verse from Ganesh Upanishad. This verse states that Lord Ganesh, Lakshmi and Rudra are the same. It is a different fact that all of us are accustomed to see the Gods in various forms. They are the one who make our life comfortable. More than that, they are very much capable of making our life merrier and free from all the troubles and anxiety. I bless you all from the depth of my heart that may Lord Ganesh, Shiva and Lakshmi bless all my disciples and Sadhaks. Every word we say is influenced by our personality. If we can’t influence a person by what we speak, our life is useless, we don’t have spiritual powers within us.
And you can’t obtain these powers just by growing older but by your experience and obtaining spiritual success. A great man is one who possesses more knowledge than the one who is older than him. Due to this reason Shukdev was made the head at the Vyaas Peeth.
There was his father who was 126 years old and before him was his son sitting at the top and delivering his speech just at a minor age of 12 years. Everyone out there said that it is unfair. How can a son sit at such a great place while his father is sitting below near his feet? The Shastras were considered and then it became clear that since Shukdev possesses immense knowledge, he was the right person to hold that position. Shastras states that Guru should not to be judged by his age but by the knowledge he possesses.
Undoubtedly, as Shukdev possessed more knowledge than his father he truly deserved the Vyaas Peeth. How do we analyze our Guru? How pious are we, how much faith do we have in our Guru and how much keen we are to be with Guru. There is no other way to judge the Guru. If you can’t find a true Guru, you are going to miss one of the biggest opportunities of your life. You won’t lose anything but you even won’t achieve anything in your life. If this is what you call life, then you are wrong.
Every person has his own perception of life. Different person listening to the same words may interpret them differently. Once upon a time Buddha was delivering his speech. At the end, he said that the next one hour is most auspicious and whatever one pursue, he will get success in that task. Go and do something, attain fulfillment in your life.
There was a shopkeeper who was sitting there listening to Buddha. He thought, “Buddha must have said correct. It’s the right time to do the business and went for his business errands. There was also a prostitute listening to Buddha. She also thought that it is the right time for her business and left in search of her customers and achieved success. One of the listeners was a wise man and he thought that since Buddha have told an auspicious time, I should use it for attaining success in my Sadhana and he obtained success in his Sadhana.
Buddha said the same words to everyone but different people interpreted it differently. Similarly I will say the same thing to all of you, but you all will interpret it differently based on your thoughts. To see or judge Guru you will need to activate your third eye. The knowledge that I am giving you can activate your third eye. It is only through this you will be able to activate your third eye, it is the means of activating your Kundalini.
It is equally important to be in touch with your Guru. A simple piece of wood becomes fragrant if it remains in contact with a sandal wood piece. Thus, just by being in contact with Guru, you may get as f ragrant as him. It is a matter of understanding him, showing immense faith in him. This is why I say Sadhanas are very simple but you people have made a hype of it. You think that Sadhanas are very difficult and it is not only you but also your so called Guru who taught you that Sadhanas are very difficult. The reason behind this is that they themselves are unaware about the Sadhanas and people waste their complete life to obtain something from them.
Performing Sadhanas is not that difficult, rather it is very simple. It is very easy to get the favors of Gods but it is very difficult to get your favors. It is very difficult to please someone. However to appease God all you need is a technique. If your don’t know how to drive a car, you can’t drive it just by holding its steering. However there is a small technique to drive the car, all you need is a proper coordination between your feet, hands and eyes. All you need to know is where to keep your feet and when to press them. If you learn this technique you will be able to drive a car. Similarly, if you learn the technique to perform a Sadhana, you will be able to get success in it. One who has traversed this path, one who knows how to drive a car can teach you the technique. Due to this reason only, it is said that a person is blessed who has Guru in his life. However there is no greatness in worshiping a Guru. It may appear contradictory to you now. People say that one should worship Guru with sandalwood, flowers etc. Even this is important. However it is more important to create a place in Guru’s heart. Your name should be on his lips.
There should be something like this. There are millions of disciples and millions of names can’t be remembered. It is the greatest time in a disciple’s life when he is able to engrave his name on Guru’s lips. However meeting a Guru and getting your name engraved on his lips is very difficult.
It is very easy to live with a dead Guru. Such a Guru is not troublesome because he doesn’t utter a word to you. You keep his picture and worship him with flowers, incense sticks, rice etc and sing before him, “Jai Gurudev Dayanidhi Deenana Hitkari” in the morning and evening. Now that picture is not going to say anything to you and you are pleased that you have worshiped him. That’s why it is said that the moment when a person meets with an alive Guru, that’s the greatest moment in ones’ life. Everyone can’t have such a fate. It might be possible that the generation after forty years, might not get such a Guru.
An alive Guru is very dangerous, he can scold you, he can order you not to do something, he can attack on your pride. Then you will think, “What a strange Guru he is? Why does he every now and then keep on interfering in my life and stopping me from doing anything. I will do whatever I like.” However, the pleasure of life is living with an alive Guru only, ser ving him, developing faith in him and surrendering oneself at his feet. This is the most difficult task. You are here today, you will stay with me for the next two days. After that you will leave for your home and I will leave for mine. Within these three days you will acknowledge that it is a difficult task. Then, even if I call you, you are not going to come back and if you won’t come back, then you will miss those great moments of your life. The Shastras say that after getting a Guru, a person achieves everything in his life. It is mentioned that, “Gurur Brahma Gurur Vishnu Guruh Devo Maheshwarah, Guruh Saakshaat Parabrahma Tasmai Shri Guruve Namah”.
Now either Shastras are wrong, they should not have written that Guru is Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. There is no use in worshiping Gods. One can achieve everything in life just by means of Guru. I bless you all that may you meet a true Guru in your life, may you recognize him, may you consider him as stated in the verse above and may your name be engraved on his lips, may you be able to create a place in his heart. I bless you all once again from the depth of my heart. One can get initiated with Guru Aatma Ekya Diksha to attain such a level in life.
