Vikramaditya was a great king who once ruled the city of Ujjain. He was intellectual and righteous and took a keen interest in serving his citizens. He treated his citizens as his own children and they in turn regarded him as their own father. Being intellectual, he would discuss a lot of things with his ministers and learned people. One such day, there were many learned and wise men in his court who had mastered the scriptures. King Vikramaditya started the discussion regarding which planet is superior among the group of the nine planets.
Thus, all the wise men opened their texts and scriptures and came forward to take part in the discussion by telling the audience about their favorite planet. The first wise man started with the planet Sun. He said, ‘The Sun is the most important and the chief deity as all the other planets move according to his command. He is called Suryanarayan or Sun God. Sun gives life to all the creatures. Sun is the brightest planet and the person who worships Sun gets everything in life. One can get rid of pain due to illness and poverty just by thinking about Sun and those who worship Sun gets all the desires fulfilled. Though all the nine planets are powerful, Sun has greatest strength and we can witness that with our own eyes.”
The second wise man stood up and said, “As per my knowledge, moon is the best planet. Moon is a gardener and owns all the plants and trees. He gives the light at night like nectar to all the plants and trees and nourishes them to grow. He is the king of the night with huge body. He has sixteen phases. What else needs to be said about moon when Lord Shiva himself keeps the moon on his forehead to soothe himself. That’s why it is the greatest of all. Moon does not trouble any body and gives pleasure to all. Moon’s mind is clear. Thus, everyone should worship Moon.”
Then the third wise man stood and said to the King, “We must not forget that Mars is a goldsmith and is very powerful and very cruel. We do not know about his cruelty, it is just like an edge of a sword and we don’t know how it will swing. But, Mars blesses his worshipers and will always be pleased with them and fulfills all the desires. Those who do not worship him due to their pride, faces the wrath of Mars. They lose all the wealth and their descendants and ultimately ruin their lives.”
After this the fourth wise man started to say, “Mercury is very powerful. Of all the planets Mercury has amazing valor. He is a merchant and is on the apex among the nine planets. If Mercury is pleased, he will make you rich and bring success in all the task a person gets involved into. Mercury is wise and not cruel, who removes the worldly worries of everybody all the times. In my opinion, Mercury is the best planet.”
Then the fifth wise man said, “Jupiter has amazing powers. Jupiter is the first in the rank of Gods including Indra. Jupiter’s knowledge is unbounded and He is full of mercy to his devotees. He removes worries and crushes the bad results of your good and bad deeds. Just by looking at him, a person gets rid of all the sorrows, pain and poverty. Jupiter is most desirable among the nine planets. Jupiter is Brahmin, the highest cast. All the Gods respect him and listen to him. You don’t have to look after other planets, if you serve Jupiter. If you worship Jupiter, all the other planets will be pleased. Jupiter is Guru of all the Gods. Even Lord Shiva prays to Jupiter. This is how Jupiter is the first in the rank.”
Then the sixth wise man said, “I think Venus (or Shukra) is a very good planet. Shukra favored demons by using the Sanjivani Mantra for rejuvenating them after their death.
Shukra is also demons’ Guru. All the three universes are under his command. So, he has boundless power. That’s why he is the greatest of all. Shukra will destroy all the deeds, good or bad. Just by chanting his name all the obstacles are vanished. Those who worship Shukra, their courage become limitless. Shukra’s body is bright and shining and he is one-eyed. Just by remembering his name, a person can get rid of all the pains, illness and poverty. His greatness is described in the scriptures. So, he is the greatest of all the nine planets.”
After listening about these six planets, the King Vikramaditya nodded his head and said, “You all did a very excellent job to describe the greatness about the planets so we should all remember these planets all the time. And now, let us know if any other planets are left. And if so, let us know more about them as well.”
Then some of the men said, “Rahu & Ketu are two other planets. Both are very strange. They both come from the dynasty of demons and are very cruel. The Moon and the Sun are scared and shudder just by looking at them. Rahu troubles Chandra, the Moon & Ketu troubles Surya, the Sun. Eclipse is a well known phenomenon caused by these planets. They also trouble all humans as well as other creatures. But, after worshiping them the troubles are minimized. So, without any doubt, these planets are no less powerful than Sun and moon.”
Then the ninth wise man said, “Lord Saturn is the greatest of all & he has the most amazing strength. No one knows about his style of working. The person gets easy ways after getting Lord Saturn’s blessings. On the other hand, a person will have all the problems when Lord Saturn is annoyed. The person’s life is ruined for a very long time. Lord Saturn gets angry very quickly. He is undefeated in any battle whether the battle is with the Gods or demons. He is the cause of all pains and sufferings. But the wise and learned people respect Lord Saturn and worship him and seek His blessings. He worships God of Time (Kalbhairav). He crushes anybody merely by his looks and sometimes he blesses and gives all the boon. When Lord Saturn was born he looked at his father, the Sun God with his charioteer and horses. As soon as he looked at them, Sun got inflected with terrible skin disease, the charioteer turned lame and the horses became blind. They all tried every other remedy but, without any success. When Lord Saturn looked at them again, Sun God with his charioteer and horses became normal and healthy.”
When King Vikramaditya listened to these words, he laughed and said, “It is useless to give birth to such a son. This son is just like an enemy. Wise men, let me know, if this kind of son damages so much just after the birth, how much more damage he might do once he grows up. King Vikramaditya said this very loudly mocking at Lord Saturn.
Unfortunately for Vikramaditya, at that very moment, Lord Saturn reached there and he heard what the King just said. The King immediately stood up and bowed down at Lord Saturn’s feet. However, the damage was done and Lord Saturn pushed him aside and said, “You are an arrogant King and amazingly good in sarcasms and taunting. Now I will punish for mocking at me. As you talked too much sarcastically, I, Saturn, will move in the place of Virgo of your horoscope. Then you will see the amazing results of your bad luck.’
The king soon realized his fault and begged for mercy and forgiveness. But Lord Saturn refused and insisted that Vikaramaditya would be punished and left the palace. Soon, the king lost his kingdom, and had to even lose his hands and feet. An oilman pitied on him and gave him shelter. Every day, the king felt bad about his karma and only after spending seven and a half years of utter distress, Lord Saturn pitied upon him and relieved him of his pain.
The above incident shows that Lord Saturn is a very strict Lord and gives us what we deserve in our life. If we did misdeeds in our life, He would punish us. If we did something great in our past lives, He will accordingly give boons in our life. Our ancient sages didn’t like this accounting of our karmas from our earlier lives. Thus created the divine act of Diksha where a Supreme Guru was able to eradicate all the sins of his disciple by means of Shani Dosh Nivaran Diksha.
This Diksha is nothing less than a great boon in the life of disciple. It can help a disciple not only to get rid of the malefic results of Lord Saturn, but it also makes the disciple eligible to get the best outcomes of a favorable Saturn. This Diksha is definitely a blessing from Revered SadGurudev to all His disciples who are currently suffering from the ill period of Shani or are about to enter into this phase.
A disciple who performs the above mentioned Sadhana is advised to get initiated with this Diksha to get the best results of this Sadhana.
