The month in which there is no Surya Sankranti is called Adhika month or Purushottam month. To understand this in simple words, the month in which there is no solstice of the Sun between one Amavasya to another Amavasya is called Adhik Maas. Sankranti means the entry of the Sun from one zodiac to another.
The Moon takes 27.3 days to complete an orbit around the earth. While the earth takes 365.25 days to orbit around the Sun. Adhik Maas is an extension of the Lunar calendar, as it differs from the Solar calendar with 32.5 months. According to Indian numerology, the Lunar year consists of 354 days. In contrast, the solar year is 365 days as they have variations expansion of a month. Thus, the distance between solar and lunar year is stabilized by Adhik Maas.
Purushottam Month is considered as a Holy month, and the benefits of this month are innumerable. The Puranas also sing high praises about Adhik Maas and indicate puja, readings of scriptures etc. during this month. Selfless actions, without any expectations of results are to be performed during Purushottam Maas. It is believed that a person can be bestowed with all the necessities of the life, as well as after leaving this world, he will be taken to the abode of Lord Vishnu.
Our ancient texts have highly praised this holy month. Some of the significances of Purushottam month are:
Purushottam is a name of Lord Vishnu which means the best among all the beings. His this name signifies that we all should try and attain greater feat in life and make this life worthy. Irrespective of the fact that Lord Ram, Lord Krishna and other forms of Lord Vishnu were divine incarnation, each of them went through a lot of struggles and faced many challenges during their life span. They struggled and emerged victorious because they never gave up, they continued to push themselves forward irrespective of what came in front of them.
Lord Ram was a prince by birth and was blessed with all the worldly pleasures. Yet, he faced challenges at every step in his life. At a small age, he had to face the demoness Tarka and defeated her after a battle. Later, he was sent to forests due to Kaikai’s wish where his wife, Sita, was kidnapped by Ravan. He had to fight with Ravan and his great army and defeated them. After completing fourteen years of exile, when he returned back to Ayodhya, he had to get separated with his wife. He didn’t even get the pleasure of enjoying the childhood of his sons.
Yet, we worship him as God and the reason behind this is He continued to struggle throughout his life but never gave up. With each challenge, his personality got further glorified and he became more and more confident and resilient in life.
Something true holds true for Lord Krishna too. When he was a mere infant, Putna tried to kill him, then he faced Kaliya Nag, followed by it he had to face the wrath of Lord Indra and to save his people from heavy rain, Lord Krishna picked entire Govardhan mountain and gave shelter to them. Later down the life, he faced many warriors and demons and defeated them. He was the one who helped Pandavas win the battle of Mahabharat.
Even after five thousand years after his birth, we still worship him. There were great warriors during the time of Mahabharat like Dronacharya, Bhishma, Karna, etc. but we don’t worship them. The reason behind this is Lord Krishna did something which others couldn’t. We remember Krishna, but we don’t know about his grandsons or the grandsons of Lord Ram. We can argue that Lord Ram and Lord Krishna are the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and that’s why we worship them.
Then what about Vivekanand, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King & other great personalities of this world. We still remember them, we offer our tribute to them and still follow their preaching. We don’t consider them as an incarnation of any God, then why do we consider them great? The reason is, they struggled in their life, they never bowed down to the challenges that came into their way and that’s why they were able to put themselves among the few known personalities of their era.
There is a great myth among the people that personality is how we look. Personality has nothing to do with our appearance, our height, or our looks. Gandhi Ji weighed merely 48 kilograms, yet he possessed a great personality. People were willing to die on his one wish. On the contrary, probably we don’t even have a single person who can just stand by our side in life.
Napoleon Bonaparte was just 5’6” tall, yet he was one of the greatest warriors of his times. Once, Napoleon was trying to pull out a book from his library which was kept on the higher racks. His general, seeing that Napoleon was finding it difficult to reach to the book said, “My Lord, let me take that book out for you. I am bigger than you.” Hearing this, Napoleon replied, “Taller, not bigger general!” This incident show how much confident was Napoleon in his life.
Personality is something which defines our characteristic. It is that confidence, that faith, that positivity which speaks about the person. Such a person need not speak about his traits, the aura of such a person speaks for him. One can come out victorious in any struggle by taking on the enemy or problem with one’s entire force and destroying it or rendering it harmless before it could harm one. When the war cry has been raised then peace messages can’t work. Rather, one must accept the challenge with the spirit of do or die. One has to attack like a lion on the enemy or the situation. All heroic deeds in the world have been accomplished with this spirit.
The brave does not worry about how strong the enemy is, rather they attack the foe with full force and fight with the determination to win. A lion doesn’t plan its next kill. Rather as soon as it spots its prey, it attacks and brings it to the ground with its sharp teeth and claws. Men who display such courage and determination are called Purushottam in life. Is a life where there are no challenges, where there are not enemies, where there are no struggle worth it? It is well said that a person is alive only till the time he continues to face struggles in life. A spineless life is of no use, it is as unworthy as living a life of an insect.
SadGurudev wants all his disciples to become great in life, to attain something which can make us stand apart in life. Irrespective of fact in whatever field we are, we need to excel in that and attain greatness in our fields. Then only we can become a true disciple, then only we can bring a smile on the face of Gurudev, then only we can create a mark in history and then only the coming generations will remember us.
If we want to live like any Mr. Ramlal or Mrs. Sheela, then we really don’t need a SadGuru in life. A SadGuru is required by someone who wants to attain something great in life, who wants to make his entire family proud of him, who wants to inscribe his name in history. And Gurudev will be granting Purushottam Kalpa Diksha to all those disciples who want to attain a great personality in life, who wants to attain something worthy, who wants to live a life of happiness and prosperity, who wants to have enormous wealth along with great health in life during this Purushottam month.
It is mandatory to obtain Guru Diksha from Revered Gurudev before performing any Sadhana or taking any other Diksha.
