The seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Lord Ram, needs no introduction. He is lived a phenomenal life that was full of challenges, sacrifices, discipline & what not. If we look into the history, we won’t find any personality who faced so many challenges in life. There is no social field where He has not set standards for an ideal character. He is an unified symbol of ideology, virtues, moral values, power, & humanly traits. He possessed an unrivaled charisma. Vedas, Upanishads etc. have mentioned the various norms of life which can be considered as an ideal behavior. However, if we think in terms of practical implementations of these traits, the first name that appear before us is none other than Lord Ram. Ramo Vigrahavaan Dharmah – i.e. Lord Ram is the manifestation of Dharma.
Sage Valmiki accepted in Valmiki Ramayan that infinite virtues resides in Lord Rama, still he listed some of those virtues so that human beings can follow those virtues to attain the most perfect personality. Sage Valmiki referred Lord Ram as Purushottam i.e. the best among men or the perfect incarnation. Lord Ram’s character portrays an ideal son, ideal brother, ideal husband, ideal friend & an ideal king. He is incredible in every aspect of his life & his entire life is dedicated towards uplifting the human beings.
Goddess Sita plays a very important role in the morality of Lord Ram. It would not be an exaggeration to say that Goddess Sita is the prime force behind the virtuous nature of Lord Ram. As an ideal wife, she always stood by him in his good & bad times. When Lord Ram was leaving for the fourteen years of exile, she joined him & left behind all the luxuries of life. She accompanied Lord Ram during His pains & sufferings. She stayed loyal towards Her husband even after suffering a lot from Ravana’s escorts. She never lost faith in Her husband even during the toughest hours. She continued to remember Lord Ram throughout Her entire stay at Lanka & didn’t embrace Ravana’s wishes.
This is the reason why on one hand Lord Ram is considered as an ideal husband, Mother Goddess Sita is considered as an epitome of a woman. They are the one who has laid down the definition of an ideal society where not only a woman but a man too remains loyal towards his partner. If we start following the norms set by their example, without any doubt, we can reestablish the golden rein of Lord Ram again in the society.
Today, Ram Raj, rein of Lord Ram, is a mere word & one can hardly find a person with high moral values. The reason behind this degradation in the society is our utter negligence towards the core human values. We have become so selfish that we don’t bother about anyone. Couples today don’t have any compassion compared to what existed between Lord Ram & Mother Sita. Neither can we find a loving relationship between brothers like Lord Ram and Bharat. On one hand where children never used to disobey their parents in this country, today these parents are blamed for anything that goes wrong in child’s life. These parents are force to spend their old age lives in old age homes. Today’s generation gives little or almost no respect to their parents which has led the parents think why they endured so much pain bringing up such a child.
To bring peace, harmony, love, brotherhood and social bonding, there is a dire need to inculcate the moral values within the society and to do so, we need to win over our selfishness, ego, hatred just like Lord Ram won over his enemy, Ravana Lord Ram & Mother Sita – An ideal couple A narration about the first discussion between Lord Ram & Mother Sita is mentioned in Ramcharitmanas as – When Lord Ram first talked to Mother Sita after marriage, He promised Her that He will always remain loyal towards Her & no other woman will ever come in His life. Mother Sita promised Him that She will remain His faithful partner during all the joys & sorrows. Thus, they pledged to remain faithful & trustworthy towards one another. This is the reason why they didn’t have any misunderstanding between them & ego never came in their relationship.
Today, most of the relationships break just because of self-dominant nature & egos of the couples. No one is willing to bring a change in their personalities in today’s world. We can make our life peaceful, successful & happy if we remove this ego, if we remove our dominating nature, if we get rid of our pride of supremacy, if we start adjusting towards each other.
It is very common to find a lot of ladies who don’t give value to their husband’s opinion yet their expectations from husbands are increasing every day. It is very normal to see a quarrelsome environment in a household today. Within a family, there should be no space for dominance & the person should rather focus on fulfilling the responsibilities. The greater the understanding that exists between the couple, the sweeter their life becomes.
There are many virtues from the life of Lord Ram & Mother Goddess Sita which should be imbibed in one’s life. Doing so ensures more harmony in between the husband & wife making the married life a blessing instead of a curse. Life & achievements of Lord Ram remained centered towards Navaratris too. During the beginning of the year, as per the Hindu calendar, comes the incarnation day of Lord Ram in the form of Ram Navmi. During the Shardiya Navratri, we celebrate Vijaydashmi to celebrate His victory over Ravana.
