Bestower of eternal happiness, one who grants boons as well as assures fearlessness, the ocean of beauty, the one who can negate the most terrible sins and gives purity, the manifested form of Goddess Maheshwari who purified the lineage of snow filled mountain, the Goddess of the city of Kashi, be gracious on me and grant me the blessings.
Lord Shiva & Goddess Parvati used to play the game of dice. Once they were playing & the game became very interesting. They started betting. Parvati kept her jewels & Shiva kept his trident. Shiva lost the game & thus he lost his trident. So, in the next game he bet his snake to get back the trident. He lost in this game too. He played more & bet more and kept on losing. Eventually he lost everything including his begging bowl.
Shiva felt very humiliated & went to Deodar forests to meet Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu approached Shiva who told him everything about what had happened. Lord Vishnu then told Shiva to play the game again. He told him that he will win back everything he had lost in the next game. Shiva took Lord Vishnu’s advice & went back to play the game again.
Goddess Parvati became suspicious of Shiva’s sudden turn of fortunes that led him to win back everything. She called him a cheat. This led to an argument between the two of them. Finally, Lord Vishnu appeared as he could not take the fight anymore. He told them that the dice in the game had moved according to his wish & they were only under an illusion that they had been playing.
To this Shiva added that everything materialistic was just an illusion or Maya. Everything that we possessed was an illusion. Even the food we ate was Maya. This made Goddess Parvati angry. She did not agree that food was an illusion. She said that calling food an illusion was equivalent to calling her an illusion. So, to show Lord Shiva & the world her importance she disappeared saying that she wanted to see how the world would survive without food.
Her disappearance meant that nature came to a standstill. There were no changes in seasons. Everything became barren. The lands became infertile. Nothing grew anymore. This led to severe drought & a huge shortage of food. The Gods, humans & demons all kept praying for food. Goddess Parvati heard the prayers & she could not see her children dying out of hunger. So, she appeared in Kashi & started distributing food.
Shiva realized his mistake & the fact that he was incomplete without Shakti. So he appeared before Goddess Parvati in Kashi with a begging bowl in his hands. He said her that he had realized his mistake that food could not be dismissed as an illusion & it was required to nourish the body as well as the inner soul. Since then, Goddess Parvati is worshipped as the Goddess of food – Goddess Annapurna.
It is a fact that we become what we eat. There is a very famous saying, “A lamp eats darkness, but in turn produces lampblack.” The essence of this saying is if the food we consume is not earned from righteous means, the food is going to harm us in all ways. If the food grain that we have bought from grocery store is not bought by the seller by fair means but is rather a theft commodity, the food consumed by such a grain is definitely going to harm us. Thus, it is very important to sanitize the food from these evil karmas & that is the reason why people first offer the food to God or Guru.
Annapurna Siddhi doesn’t mean that whatever we wish to eat should appear before us as a magic, but it means to gain the capability in life to eat whatever we wish for. If we wish to eat sweets in life, we should somehow get access to it – either by having the power to purchase it or by cooking it ourselves. In both the cases, the person can fulfill the desire.
This Sadhana should be performed on Annapurna Jayanti. If somehow you are unable to do so, one can also perform this Sadhana during the Navaratri, Diwali, Holi or any other auspicious day related.
Sadhana Procedure
One needs Annapurna Yantra & Kamal Gatta rosary for this procedure. Take a bath after 10 pm & wear clean yellow clothes.
Sit on a yellow mat facing North & place a wooden plank before you. Cover the plank with a yellow cloth & place a picture of revered SadGurudev on it. Light a ghee lamp which should continue to lit during the entire sadhana duration. Now worship Him with rice grains, vermillion and flowers and chant one round of Guru Mantra. After this pray to SadGurudev for success in the Sadhana.
Next make a slightly big mound of rice grains on the plank & put some vermillion & flower petals on the mound and place the Annapurna Yantra on it. Also place a picture of Goddess Lakshmi in front of you. Offer some food made with milk to the Mother Goddess.
Now take the Kamal Gatta rosary & chant 11 rounds of the following mantra.
Chant one round of Guru Mantra again at the end of the Sadhana & then consume the offerings made to the Goddess with full joy.
Offer food to seven girls the next day. It is observed that the person performing this Sadhana starts getting good financial gains by the end of this Sadhana. Also, the health of such a person starts to become better as the grains get detached from any sins that were done to procure or sell it. For even better results, one should chant the above mantra 51 times daily in the morning before the Yantra. This helps the person to gain continuous health & wealth in life.
It is mandatory to obtain Guru Diksha from Revered Gurudev before performing any Sadhana or taking any other Diksha.
