Once one of the disciples of Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu asked Him, “Gurudev, how long will it take for me to get a glimpse of Lord Shri Krishna?”
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu replied, “This tree under which you are sitting, has many leaves on it. It will take as many births as there are leaves on the tree.”
The disciple heard the Guru’s words & started dancing with joy because it was confirmed that he would attain God after having lived an infinite number of lives in the cycle of life & death. He was thrilled! Seeing his joy, Mahaprabhu said, “No, looks like I need to make a correction. You will get a glimpse of Lord Shri Krishna in this life itself.”
The disciple was super delighted & he danced with more joy. Seeing his joy, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said further, “No, you will get a glimpse of Lord Shri Krishna during this year itself.”
The disciple’s enthusiasm reached skyhigh & seeing this Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said, “You will attain Lord Shri Krishna in this month.”
Tears started to flow out of the disciples eyes & then Chaitanya Mahaprabhu said, “Here is Shree Krishna, you can see Him now.”
The other devotees asked their Guru the reason behind why He kept changing His words. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu replied that the disciple’s firm faith to attain the goal kept on increasing & it is just the firm faith that attracts the grace of God.
The human life is full of wanderings. When a person takes birth, he or she gets bounded into several relationship like mother, father, uncles, aunts, grandfather etc. There is no control over these relationships by us. We have to accept them as our relatives & grow up as per their expectations. These expectations get set the moment a child takes birth. The child is expected to become a doctor, engineer, architect etc. without even considering whether the child will really want to pursue that career or not.
The child falls into this trap & tries to fulfill the desires of the parents right from the childhood. The child is expected to be good in studies, good in presenting oneself, good at sports & what not. The child under these expectations starts feeling overburdened. However, there is no escape for the child as there are lots of burden on his or her shoulders. The child puts in best possible efforts to fulfill the dreams of the parents. Few lucky ones are able to accomplish the goal; and those not are left to scolding throughout the life.
The successful child then works day and night to get a degree with good academics history. Soon such bright child also gets a good paying job & considers oneself to be the blessed one. Looking at their child’s progress in life, the parents propose marriage to the child saying that you are capable to look after your own family now & must get married. If one denies, then they say that it is a must in the society & not doing so will raise several questions.
Now this grown up person once again sacrifices the wish & soon gets married. After marriage, the next expectation that gets set on this person is to bring a new member into the family. Under parents & society’s pressure, the newly wed couples plan for a baby & bring a new member in the family. Now starts the real struggle of life. The person who has now become a father or a mother now starts to work very hard just to give the best to their family. This person now wants to give all the pleasures into the family so that the family lives a comfortable life.
This person now starts to work day & night & soon drenches out all the energy. The more the person works, the more scarcity of items he or she starts to feel in life. All the people in this world wishes to have everything in life, but doesn’t consider what Sacrifice is he or she is giving in return. The person then focuses entirely on earning more & more money in life as this is the only means to satisfy oneself materialistically. This thought process is itself a big killer of modern time. Most of the people around us want to become super rich in life so that they can buy whatever they wish for in life & considers happiness as buying new things & having a huge amount of cash.
Indeed, money is a must to survive our daily needs but the bitter truth is that money is not the soul of life. Soon after earning a lot of money or after living a luxurious life, the person now wonders what is he or she doing in life. What is the aim of life? For what is he or she working so hard in life? Is it really worth it? What is he or she doing in this world? Why has he or she been given a golden opportunity to come to this world in human for?
And then for the blessed ones, for those who have done enough pious deeds in their current & previous lives, comes a divine being called SadGuru. A SadGuru is like an oasis in the middle of a desert. He is the divine being been sent by the Almighty to guide the human beings, to show them the path to eternity, to take them to the destination called nirvana; after reaching which nothing remains unfulfilled in life. The life of the person becomes complete after reaching to this level in life.
However, reaching this state is not a child’s play. One has to completely immerse oneself into the holy feet of a SadGuru, one has to amalgamate oneself into the SadGuru to become someone like Him, to become complete in life. The person then doesn’t remain any common man or woman but is blessed with the divine term called a disciple. Being a disciple is the best thing that can happen in life as this phenomenon occurs in live of very few people.
The SadGuru comes into the life of those people who really wish to make this life worthy. The SadGuru tests the disciple again and again to see if he or she is willing to go to that level in life or not. Sometimes He will give you siddhis related to Lakshmi or Goddess Kali just to ensure if the disciple really seeks nirvana or just want to become more materialistic in life. A SadGuru can provide both in life provided you are willing to accept them both.
Until & unless a person has become satisfied in this materialistic world, the person can’t even imagine attaining spiritual completeness. We are living in a world that gives more value to money & things that can be bought with money than the virtues. How can a person earn respect in this world without possessing these materialistic things in life?
Thus, until & unless a person can prove his or her worthiness in this world, attaining spiritual enlightenment can’t get completed in life.
So, a SadGuru first nurtures the disciple to live a life of contentment where the disciple has everything in life & yet he or she is no more inclined towards it. Once the SadGuru gets assured that the disciple is ready now, the SadGuru doesn’t need any special effort or time to take the disciple to that level where the disciple becomes an image of the SadGuru himself. It is just a firm faith in Guru that is required to attain such a feat in life!
There is no greater principle than the Guru, there is no greater penance than the Guru, there is no greater knowledge than meditation on the form of such a Guru. I offer my gratitude towards such a Guru.
