These tasks have been termed as Sanskaar in the Sanatan Dharma. These Sanskaars are very important to get blessed with a capable child. Punsavana Sanskaar is performed at the time of conception.
Naamkaran Chudamani Sanskaar is performed after birth. When the child grows & reaches the age of five years, Upanayan Sanskaar is performed to help the child gain knowledge.
After becoming adult, Vivaah Sanskaar, is performed & the child gets married. Growing through all the Sanskaars, the child finally reaches the old age, and the soul leaves the diseased & distressed body & takes rebirth by entering into a new body. The left behind body is then offered to fire as per Hindu religion that is a part of Kapaal Kriya Sanskaar.
Sanatan Dharma is very systematic as well as very compassionate. Our relationship continues with the departed soul (Pitras) even after it leaves the body. Shraaddha Sanskaar was created to offer our reverence towards this departed soul as well as to help it get relieved. Shraaddha is a well-known activity & doesn’t need a huge explanation. However, very few people are aware that there are twelve types of Shraaddha.
It is a process done daily where sesame seeds, grains, water, milk, fruits etc. are offered for the satisfaction of the Pitras.
It is also known as Ekoddishta Shraaddha . After performing this procedure, one must feed 1, 3 or 5 Brahmins.
Shraaddha performed with some wish is called Kamya Shraaddha.
This is done to gain wealth as well as for expansion in family. This should be performed only by those people who have gone through the Upnayan Sanskaar.
In this type of Shraaddha, four vessels are taken & are filled with mixture of water, fragrance & sesame seeds. Then the water in Pret vessel is poured into the Pitra vessel. The four vessels are the symbols of Pretaatma, Pitaatma, Devaatma & unknown souls.
This is the Shraaddha performed on Amavasya or some special day.
This is the Shraaddha that is performed for the cows.
Procedure performed by the Brahmins for appeasing the learned ones, satisfaction of the Pitras & attainment of wealth & prosperity is called as Sudharyartha Shraaddha.
This is the Shraaddha performed during conception, Seemaantonnayan & Punsavan Sanskaars.
Holy fire sacrifice done by offering ghee for appeasing Gods on the day of travel is called Daivik Shraaddha.
This Shraaddha is performed for gaining a healthy & strong body.
This is the greatest of all the Shraaddhas & is performed on the death anniversary of the ancestor. Its significance is mentioned in Bhavishya Puran where Lord Sun has himself said, I don’t accept the worship of a person who doesn’t perform Saanvatsarika Shraaddha and neither do Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, Lord Brahma or any other Gods or Goddesses. Thus, the person must try his best to perform this Shraddha every year on the death anniversary of the ancestors.
A person who doesn’t perform the yearly Shraddha of his father & mother goes to extreme hell & is reborn as a pig. A question might arise here as everyone might not know the date of the death of their parents so how they can perform Shraaddha for them. Such persons should perform the Shraaddha on the day of Amavasya during the Shraaddha period. Shraaddha for mother, grandmother, great grandmother etc. should be performed on the ninth day of the Shraaddha period.
It is not that Shraaddha procedure should be performed for mother & father only. This is a process of offering gratitude towards our ancestors & a great opportunity to get their blessings. Thus, each sadhak as well as the reader must perform the Shraaddha procedure.
Mere calling Brahmins at home, offering them food & money doesn’t fulfill our duty towards our ancestors. One must perform special sadhanas related to Shraaddha to obtain the best results & appease the ancestors. Thus, the sadhaks must perform the sadhana following all the steps of the sadhana procedure religiously.
One needs Pitareshvar Tarpan Saafalya Yantra & 11 Pitareshvar Shanti seeds. This sadhana should be performed as per the death date of the ancestor. The biggest advantage of performing Shraaddha procedure by this process is that this process is highly effective in relieving the ancestor from the Pret Yoni or any other lower levels and help them take a rebirth in a good family. The souls of such ancestors become happy after getting rid of their pains & sufferings & blesses their offsprings that brings peace, harmony & prosperity at home.
The sadhana procedure of this sadhana is very straightforward & anyone can perform it. The sadhak should get up early in the morning & take a bath. Get in clean white cloth & sit facing South. Keep all the articles that one wishes to donate to the Brahmin near you.
First take some water in your right palm & speak – I am performing this sadhana for relieving my ancestor (name). May I get success in the sadhana & obtain their blessings. Let the water flow onto the ground.
Now make a human form in a plate with vermillion & place Pitareshvar Tarpan Saafalya Yantra over it. Worship the yantra with flowers, lamp etc. Now place Pitareshvar Shanti seeds one after other by chanting the below mantra.
Speak out the name of the person in place of Amukam for whom you are performing the sadhana. Chant the above mantra for 15 minutes fixing your gaze on the yantra. Drop all the sadhana articles in a river or pond after completing the sadhana procedure. Feed the Brahmin after the sadhana procedure & offer all the articles to him that you had kept near you for donation during the sadhana procedure. One must ensure that one set of sadhana articles must be used for a single ancestor only. If one wants to perform Shraaddha for both mother & father, then the sadhak should use two separate sadhana packets.
It is advisable to get initiated with Pitra Dosh Nivaran Diksha during the Pitra Paksha. This is a sure way to help your ancestors get relieved from their sufferings & to get rid from the wrath of distressed souls. Doing so appeases the ancestors & as a result they bless their offsprings with health, wealth, prosperity, child etc. along with peace & harmony at house.
