Salutations to Lord Kaal Bhairava, the one who is radiant like millions of suns, who uplifts from the ocean of Samsara, the one with blue-throat, who fulfills all the desires and the three-eyed one, who is the death of death (KaalKaal), whose eyes looks like lotus, who holds a rosary of human bone and a trident, the imperishable one, the Lord of the city of Kasi, the Kalabhairava, I bow to you.
Bhairava originates from the word bhiru, which means “fearsome”. Bhairava means “terribly fearsome form”. It is also known as one who destroys fear or one who is beyond fear. One interpretation is that he protects his devotees from dreadful enemies greed, lust and anger. Bhairava protects his devotees from these enemies. These enemies are dangerous as they never allow humans to seek God within.
There is also another interpretation: Bha means creation, Ra means sustenance and Va means destruction. Therefore, Bhairava is the one who creates, sustains and dissolves the three stages of life. Therefore, he becomes the ultimate or the supreme.
The word Bhairava means the one who removes all sorts of fears from the life. Lord Bhairav is an incarnation of Lord Shiva and is thus worshipped by both Tantriks as well as Mantriks all across this world. He is a quick appeasing God and is thus a widely worshipped God too. He is depicted in an aggressive form with angry eyes shaped like lotus blossoms, blazing hair, tiger’s teeth, snake coiled around his neck or crown, and a garland of human skulls. Often terrifying, Kala Bhairava carries a trident, a drum and the severed fifth head of Brahma. The deity is blue throated from swallowing poison to save the world. Hence, he is considered to be the vanquisher of death.
Bhairava is also called upon as a protector, as he guards the eight directions of the universe. In Shiva temples, when the temple is closed, the keys are placed before Bhairava. Bhairava is also described as the protector of women. He is described as the protector of the timid and in general women who are timid in nature. It is generally believed that worshiping Bhairava gives success and prosperity, prevents premature death and solution to debts and liabilities. Despite being one of the most feared deities, he is essentially one of the most rewarding and protective God. Being a Rudra, the Lord is said to be very knowledgeable in Tantra-Mantra.
We all need the grace of Lord Bhairav in our lives. We can be troubled by a real life enemy who is making our life a hell. Consider a situation where the enemy is far more powerful than us, the enemy is more resourceful than us, the enemy is wealthier than us. What will we do under such a circumstance? Shall we bow down before the enemy and seek his mercy? Or shall we flee away from the area like a coward? Isn’t there a way to take care of such enemies? If our sadhana database doesn’t have a solution to such a common issue? The simple and short answer to such a problem is performing Sadhana related to Lord Bhairav.
Coming to another aspect of life, how many of us don’t remain fearful about our future? How many of us are not afraid of something going wrong against us? How many of us are not afraid of someone’s planning evil against us? What about your work place? May be the office colleague you are trusting the most, whom you have favored the most is plotting against you? May be the person is poisoning your managers thoughts? What about your business? The person whom you trust the most might be actually a treacherous person?
May be he plans to bleed you out in the future? Is there anything in the world of Sadhanas which can help us to remain at peace and safeguard us against all such incidents? The answer to this problem is also Bhairav Sadhana.
Touching another aspect of life, what about living and dying in poverty. There was no control in our hand when we took the birth. It was our luck to get born in either a rich family or a poor family. It is still bearable for a poor person to live the entire life in poverty, what can be said about a rich person being forced by the fate to live a life in poverty, seeing his family being deprived of all the necessities of life. Isn’t it the most painful sight of life? However, is there a way by which we can remove poverty and all the short comings of our life? The solution for this problem is again Bhairav Sadhana.
It can also be seen that there are few individuals who are very honest, who work diligently, are intelligent yet they don’t get the success that they deserve in life. People with lower caliber are seen to overtake them in life and leave them frustrated. Even worse is the situation when such an intelligent and diligent person has to report to a person who is not even capable to work along with him. Isn’t there a way to change such harsh actions of fate in life. The answer to this is again Bhairav Sadhana.
Above we have quoted just four points to showcase the problems faced by us in our life and how Bhairav Sadhana can come to the rescue. There are numerous aspects of life and Lord Bhairav comes as a savior in each and every aspect of life. Presented below is a Sadhana of Lord KaalBhairav which should be performed on KaalBhairav Jayanti falling on 27th Novemeber this year.
Sadhana Procedure:
One needs Kaal Bhairav Yantra and Kaal Bhairav rosary for this procedure. This Sadhana should be performed at night after 10 pm. Take a bath and wear black clothes and put a vermillion mark on the forehead. Sit on a black cotton mat facing south. Cover a wooden plank with a black cloth and place a picture of Gurudev on it. Worship Gurudev with vermillion, rice grains, flowers etc. and light an oil lamp. Now chant one round of Guru Mantra and then pray to Gurudev to grant success in the Sadhana.
Now speak out the following:
Om Hreem Ayiem Shreem Kleem Ayiem Hreem Shreem SarvaGyaaya Prachanda Paraakra Batukaaya Emamam Deepam Grahaana SarvaKaaryaani Sadhaya Sadhaya, Dushtaan Naashaya Naashaya, Traasaya Traasaya Sarvato Mama Rakshaam Kuru Kuru Hum Phat Swaha.
Next take some unbroken rice grains, flowers and some water in your hand and speak out the following mantra:
Grihaan Deepam Devesha, Batukesha Mahaaprabho
Mamaabhishtam Kuru Shipramaapadbhyao Samudhyara
(Offer the articles held in hand to the lamp)
Now join your palm and looking at the lamp speak out:
Bho Batuk! Mama Sammukhobhava,
Mama Kaaryam Karu Karu Ichitam Dehi- Dehi
Mama Sarva Vighanaan Naashaya Naashaya Swaha.
Speak out your wishes or any hurdles that you want to remove from your life. Next chant 21 rounds of the below mantra with the rosary. If possible, try to fix your gaze on the lamp while mantra chanting.

Chant the below mantra after completing the 21 rounds.
Shri Bhairav Namastubhyam Satvaram Kaaryasaadhaka,
Utsarjayami Te Deepam Traayasva Bhavasaagaraat,
Mantraanaamakshar Heenena Pushpena Vikalena Vaa,
Pujitosi Mayaadeva! Tatkshamasva Mama Prabho.
Pray again to the Lord for success in Sadhana. Sleep at your worship place in the night. Next morning, tie all the Sadhana articles in the black cloth and drop it in a river or pond. This ensures the completion of Sadhana and you will yourself notice how various challenges are automatically getting resolved in your life and you no longer have to struggle with them.
