The word Guru Poornima doesn’t need any special explanation, at least to all those blessed people who have been graced by presence of a SadGuru in their life. Guru Poornima is approaching soon and so is the greatest festive day for a true disciple. This is a day to live to the fullest, this is a day to enjoy its each and every moment, this is a day to appease your Guru and get what you wish for in life. Lord Shiva Himself comes to this earth in the form of Guru this day.
The word Poorna in Hindi means to attain completeness or to reach up to its full charm. This word symbolizes to one of the several phases of Moon. The moon goes through several phases in the entire month. On one day it becomes completely invisible and then it gradually gains it’s size and finally emerges before us like a full circle, termed as Poornima in Hindi. However, does it really mean that the moon actually grows and shrinks over the period of time. All of us are aware of the fact that moon in itself is a complete sphere, however it is our limited vision due to which we can’t see the moon in its full form on all the days. However, if we travel to the space and look at the moon, we will always find it to be a complete sphere, irrespective of the fact that whether it is day or night.
Something similar can be considered about a SadGuru. A SadGuru is a symbol of completeness in all forms, however, it is the shortcoming of the disciple who remains unidentified from the true form of the SadGuru. Many disciples see SadGuru as a common man like them. It is their shortcoming which leads to nothing but disaster in life. Similar to a wise man who knows the fact that the moon is a complete sphere and it is our limited vision which prevents us to look at the complete form of moon, a true disciple also remains aware of the true nature and greatness of his Guru.
No matter how bright the sun may be, it’s rays are not as soothing as that of moon. It is the moon which comes out at the odd hours and removes the darkness. The nature has blessed us with the fact that we can witness the complete form of moon on the day of Poornima, so that even a common man can witness and get delighted by looking at the moon. Similarly, Guru Poornima is the day on which the Guru emerges in His actual Shiva form so that all His disciples may understand His form. Just as the moon casts soothing light on earth on this day and we feel delighted, the same way Guru appears before the disciples in His wish fulfilling form and grants all sorts of diksha, sadhanas so that the disciple can rise higher in life.
Guru Poornima is the day to show our reverence towards our beloved Gurudev, it is the day to pay our tributes to our beloved Gurudev. It is not a tradition which has been introduced few years back, but is almost as old as the days when human got enlightenment for the very first time. Importance of Guru can be understood by this very fact that even the Gods and Goddesses have accepted Vrihaspati as their Guru. If the word Guru had been meaningless then why would the Gods have accepted any person as Guru as they are themselves capable enough. When they are so much capable to satisfy our desires and we worship them, then why do they need a Guru in life? The reason behind this fact is that nothing significant can be achieved in life without the grace of Guru.
Lord Shiva has been termed as the first Guru who started this Guru-disciple culture. From that day till now, several great Gurus have incarnated in this entire universe. On this very day, all the disciples go into the holy feet of their Guru and pay their tribute. If one considers this point carefully, then one can evaluate this fact that every Guru is also a disciple, who Himself reaches into the holy feet of His Guru on this particular day. So, actually a chain gets created on this very day starting from Lord Shiva to us by means of our Gurus. Thus any diksha, sadhana, mantra obtained on this day is in a way directly attained form of that divine source. And due to this very reason, nothing remains impossible on this day.
This is the day when even the Guru remains highly pleased. He remains eager to meet all His disciples and to put an end to all their pains, sufferings and shortcomings. However, the disciple has to reach the holy feet of the Guru to make this thing possible.
Similar to the fact that moon remains there forever in this universe, the Guru also remains forever near to His disciples. It is the shortcoming of a disciple who is unable to see Guru always standing next to him and guiding him.
A true disciple is the one who always wishes to be in the company of his Guru, a true disciple always seeks pleasure in serving the holy feet of his Guru. And due to this very fact, Gurudev had asked us to reach to that level where He can take us to Siddhashram. He is waiting for all of us to reach Siddhashram. He promised to all of us that He would take us to Siddhashram, however, He also insisted on the fact that for this to happen, we must deeply love Him, we must uplift ourselves in life, we must become capable enough so that we may make Him proud. We all wish to get a glimpse of our revered SadGurudev, however how many of us are keenly following His preaching. He told us that it’s a disgrace to remain poor, weak, unsatisfied in life. He also told us that remaining at the state in which we are right now, is a disgrace for Him too. We are the disciples of SadGurudev Dr. NarayanDutt Shrimali Ji and Shri Kailash Chandra Shrimali Ji and all of us are proud of this fact. However, how many of us really makes our Guru proud of ourselves. How many of us really bring a smile on the face of our Guru when we meet Him? How many of us are keen to serve Him? It is the time to evaluate ourselves on the occasion of this Guru Poornima. It is our duty to become complete in life and to achieve greatness.
If we say that money can bring us happiness in life, if we say that wealth is the sole component for a blessed life, then we can go and visit a hospital and see those rich people crying in pain and suffering from all sorts of diseases. We can go and see the cremation ground and see that no matter how rich a man was, he is left with nothing else but a fistful of ashes in the end. If money could have brought happiness in life, then none of these wealthy people would be deprived of all the delicious foods in life. We are far better than them, because we are allowed to eat what we wish for in life. If we say that happiness lies in having a stronger body, then we can look into the history and can see that even the strongest of kings and dynasties have been turned into soil with due course of time. We can go through the life of Alexander and learn how much he regretted that he wasted his entire life in fighting and becoming stronger. As a last desire, he asked his men to take his deadbody to the graveyard with both his hands kept free. He tried to explain to the world that nothing can be achieved by fighting, by conquering or by gaining physical strength. Even at last, Alexander the Great, had to depart from this world empty handed. If we consider gaining success in sadhana is the only goal of life, then again we are mistaken. There are thousands of people who have gained success in some or other sadhana, yet they don’t consider their life as complete. The reason behind this is the fact that completeness can only be achieved by the grace of Guru. Gaining success in sadhanas can not only make us proud of ourselves, it may even take us to the path of downfall. Only a Guru can teach us how to control ourselves after gaining success in any sadhana.
There can’t be a more proud moment in the life of a true disciple than to be at the holy feet of his Guru. For a disciple, the most pious place is where his Guru resides. For a disciple, there can’t be a more happier moment than to serve his Guru. And it is the duty of each and every disciple to reach the holy feet of his Guru and pay his tributes. Guru appears in His full Shiva form where He is ready to grant any wish to His disciple, it is the day when a disciple can make a place in his Guru’s heart, it is the day when a disciple can attain what all he wishes for in life.
This life is a blessing from our revered Gurudev who has blessed us with this human form. It is our duty to make the best out of this life, it is our duty to reach to the goal which He has fixed for us, it is our duty to fulfill His dreams. Let us all promise right now that we will meet our beloved Gurudev and offer our love and prayers in His holy feet on this pious day of Guru Poornima.
