There are relatives in a man’s life, he has his family, yet his life is full of tensions and even after possessing all the material goods in life, he says that he doesn’t feel good. He feels that even though he has all these things, still something is missing, there is some sort of emptiness in life and he remains tensed.
The reason for such emptiness is that till the time we don’t feel the eternal joy, there is no use of all these worldly pleasures. The more a person tries to attain happiness by means of worldly pleasures, the more he tries to fulfill his materialistic wishes – materialistic wishes means good food, good clothes, good standard of living and all such things, the more he will acquire diseases in life.
If someone is very beautiful, then that person always remains haunted by thinking of old age. Marilyn Monroe was one of the finest actresses of America. She used to charge millions of dollars for a single movie. However when she observed a wrinkle on her at an age of 23, she thought that will I have to go through the old age also. And she committed suicide at an age of just 23 years. 23 years of age is not a big thing and her picture used to cost millions. Due to this reason, a fear of old age remains even if you are beautiful. There is a sense of fear behind every materialistic pleasure.
When you become spiritually awake and by it I don’t mean that you start wearing saffron clothes, this is not spiritualism. Spiritualism means that there should be worldly attachments in life. I you have a attachment towards your son, then if he will suffer from fever, you will feel the pain too.
I saw a movie some 15-18 years back. The hall was completely full and in one of the shots, heroin’s son dies. All the ladies who were watching this movie felt as if their own son was dying and started to cry and the whole hall was full of moans of these ladies. Even though they are aware that they have bought tickets for a movie show and they have to go back home after 3 hours and above all these characters are not their relatives, they were crying. It happened due to the fact that they started to consider themselves as the heroin and the dying son as their own son. All those who were watching the movie without resembling themselves to the characters, they didn’t cry.
If we consider this world as a movie and feel that I am just here to see this movie, we will then not feel the pains that we suffer through in this world. All that is required is to remain cautious that I am just watching a movie and one day I will have to leave this world just as we leave the hall after the movie finishes. If there is no attachment, then there will be no pain. And if there is no pain then we will be able to understand the religion properly. Till now we have been complaining that O God! What is all this? I have done so much good deeds, I used to come to the temple every day, I used offer food to you regularly and you have not given anything in life. This is not religion!
Last time I told you that I am more religious than you people and there is no doubt regarding this. I also bow before Lord Ram. There is not a single second in my life that I have not remembered Lord Ram, Lord Krishna or Lord Shiv. My intent behind saying this is that you won’t achieve anything just by going to temples.
Till the time we don’t imbibe that figure in our heart, there is no use of keeping and worshipping the picture of the God. Meaning of religion is, “Dhaarayati Sah Dharma” i.e. what we imbibe in our heart is the religion. Religion is not what we speak out. If I say that I am Hindu and still if I am involved in theft, robbery, cheating others then that is not Hinduism. Hinduism will be realized if I consider that I should follow the ethics of Lord Ram, I will become an obedient son, I will become a lady as great as Sita and if I imbibe these traits then only I will be called a Hindu.
Seeing and imbibing something in heart is different. We come and join our palms and stand in front of the idol. We think that we have done a great job and we have reached closer to the God. However this is not the way by which you can get closer to the God.
We live our life in ego, no matter how much a person looks calm and simple from outside, he never leaves his ego and temper behind. And if these things are present, then religion can’t exist there, till that time you won’t be able to achieve greatness in life, you won’t be able to obtain utmost joy of life. For achieving true joy, it is necessary to get attached with your soul. We immediately call out “Mother” whenever we are in any sort of trouble. This happens because we are attached to our mother so much and we treat her a God.
This is how we should imbibe Gods in our heart. If we have the same feeling towards Lord Ram, then we will not face any issues in our life. You will feel the internal joy even in the adversity if you will take all these situation as if you are just witnessing these events as a movie on screen.
We should help others as much as possible, we should help our neighbors. Even the means of helping others is different. Looking a man we can’t guess about his greatness. All people have similar outlook, they have two hands, two legs and so on. Looking at these traits we can’t make out who among all these has a greater personality.
Lord Ram had two hands and two legs, Lord Krishna also had two hands and two legs. However there are three stages of a human being by which we can make out where this man or woman is standing. A man or a woman normally remains confined to their family only. If someone in their family gets sick then they get tensed, feel the pain and follows up the doctor.
However if someone is sick in his neighborhood then he sits calmly and eat his food, he doesn’t feel any pain and such type of people have the worst character. He is one of the human being, he may be very rich yet he stands on the lowest level of all these three stages. And the third type of person is one who feels the pain even if someone staying far away feels their pain. If there is flood in some place, he feels the same pain as if he or his family is suffering through it. This is the difference between the personalities of the two individuals, may it be a man or a woman. We can reach this greatness if we imbibe the religion in ourselves.
We bow down our head when we reach a Temple and we should also bow down with the same sincerity when we reach a Mosque or a Church or a Gurudwara or any other such place. Our life should be on the highest stage and not on any lower stages. This is the difference between joy and pleasure and when we follow such traits in our life then we witness the eternal joy in life and when a person gets this eternal joy, his glow comes to his face. If you have seen the picture of Lord Ram, then you would have seen that there is a halo around his head, there is a halo around Lord Mahavir’s head, there is a halo around Lord Krishna and Buddha. However there is no halo around us, we don’t have any glow on our face and it is because we don’t have true joy in our lives and if we obtain this eternal joy in our life then definitely our face will have a glow, an aura will come around our head.
Lord Buddha went to a village and asked, “Have your village given a birth to a great man?” The villagers replied that no one in our village was a great person when he took birth however he can become a great man later, no one possesses a great personality since birth. Everyone has same traits at the time of birth, two hands, two legs, a small child but later he can become Krishna by his efforts, he can become Lord Mahavir, Ram or Lord Buddha……a person becomes great by his deeds. The Lord gave you all these traits when you were born and they still exist. And if you are not aware of those traits then you won’t be able to achieve that greatness which they achieved.
You can become great by your own efforts and you are great! If you want to rise to that greatness, which is the first stage, which is the second stage and which is the third stage then you will have to leave your selfishness. If you grow your virtues up to your locality, then you will raise even higher and if you still go further you can flourish yourself in the entire country and further to this entire world. If a war is going on in Vietnam and you feel pain then consider that you have reached higher in life. Life should be something like this.
However it doesn’t take a day to achieve such greatness in life because there is a difference between religion and spirituality. Religion gets narrowed but spiritualism doesn’t. Why these Hindus and Muslims are fighting? Just for religion. If they have the feeling of spiritualism, then there wouldn’t have been any fight, there wouldn’t have been so much killings. If someone’s 18 year old son dies, then that person has the same love for him that we have for our son. That mother must have felt the same pain which we have felt, there is no difference. They are mother and father and so are we, yet we don’t find any change because we are bounded by religion.
Spiritualism means that our soul should become a part of this entire world, this entire universe, everyone should be equal to us. If they have tears in their eyes, then our eyes are also full of tears. This is the true form of spiritualism. I am explaining the difference between religion and spiritualism. Religion is important for us and I am proud of being a Hindu. However I consider other religions to be great too.
Even Mahatama Gandhi said that, “I am proud to be a Hindu, however it doesn’t mean that other religions are bad.” It is not that Jesus Christ is bad, Prophet Mohammad is bad. Even they are correct at their place. We didn’t receive their knowledge but obtained the knowledge from Ram, Krishna, Mahavir.
We can reach such greatness when we will be able to conquer our anger, when we are able to win over our ego, when we are able to win over our sexual desires. We claim that we have conquered over these feeling but in reality we can’t conquer these feelings completely. There are Thakurs in Rajashtan. Prior to 1947, they had small provinces of five or ten villages or an area of about two thousand miles on which they used to rule. There were around three thousand rulers at that time. Their primary goal was to live a lavish life and for that they used to charge heavy taxes on the people. They didn’t have any other goal in life.
Those with larger provinces were called kings and those with smaller provinces were called Thakur. Now they are not left with much for their survival still they carry the same attitude. I am narrating an incident of one such Thakur. One day he thought that I have done so many sins in my life, I have killed many birds, eaten lots of flesh, killed thousands of chickens because I am a Thakur. I should go to Haridwar and get rid of my sins there. He told to the villagers that I am going to Haridwar as I want to get free of my sins. I wish to get spiritual enlightment now.
So he left for Haridwar with his fellows and the queens. Now when he reached Haridwar, the priest asked him to pledge to leave one thing. Now the Thakur got in a dilemma as to what he can leave. As he was fond of cooking, he thought that if he quits eating sugar, how will he control himself if some sweets come in front of him. So he thought for a moment and then said that, “Fine I will quit my anger!”.
Listening to this the priest said that the Thakur should quit some eatables. To this the Thakur replied that as he was a Thakur, he can’t sacrifice anything eatable in his life. The priest understood that the Thakur is a shrewd man and there is no use of forcing him. Finally, the Thakur returned back to his village. All the villagers gathered to welcome him. Then they asked him that what he quit there. To this he replied that he has quit anger in his life.
Hearing this, the villagers were astonished. The Thakur was famous for his short temperedness and used to put the people on the gun point even for small things. At that time the barber of the village stood up and asked, “My Lord! What did you quit when you go to Haridwar?” Thakur replied getting a bit irritated “I have quit anger in my life.” Other people started to ask other questions related to his journey. Again the barber stood up and asked, “Beg my pardon my Lord! What did you quit when you go to Haridwar?” Hearing the same question again and again, Thakur forgot that he had pledged to quit anger. He started shouting at the barber, “You scoundrel, you swine! How many times do I need to tell you that I have quit anger in my life?”
This is the real truth. We just say that we have quit these things in life but in reality it is very hard to get rid of these feelings. You can earn these great virtues only by means of sacrifice, by serving your Guru. I bless you that you all attain eternal joy in your life. May you all get above the religion and practice true spiritualism in life.
I am your SadGuru and it is my eternal wish that you all achieve greatness in your life. May you all be renowned in this world. I bless you all once again from the depth of my heart.
