Few days later, King Dashrath performed a holy fire ritual through sage Shringi after which the sage gave him kheer to feed all his wives. A portion of kheer which belonged to Kaushalya, his eldest wife, was snatched by a kite who flew all the way where Anjana was meditating. Lord Vayu (aka Pawan – Wind) on the signal of Lord Shiva kept the kheer in Anjana’s hand. Thinking it as Lord Shiva’s prasad Anjana ate it and thus gave birth to his incarnation – Pawan Putra Hanuman , the son of the Lord of the Winds.
Lord Hanuman is the most revered form of a disciple. Even though He accomplished many great works in His life, He never looked for any praise. His only desire in life was to serve His Guru. Presented below are some of the great incidents from the life of this great incarnation of Lord Shiva.
Center of power
No need to mention about Lord Hanuman’s power, we are all aware of it, killed many great warriors like Mahiravan, He insulted all the courtiers of Ravan as they were unable to lift His feet, He burnt the entire Lanka, when Lakshman got hit by Indrajeet’s arrow, He uprooted Sumeru mountain and brought it from Himalayas to Lanka overnight, He defeated Lord Saturn to pay off His Gurudakshina, He freed Lord Saturn from the captivity of Ravan. The number of events revealing His power and bravery can be very long.
Center of knowledge
Lord Hanuman not only possessed great physical power, He is also considered to be a symbol of wisdom and great intelligence too. He gained all the knowledge from His Guru, Lord Sun, within a span of just sixty hours. It was His wisdom with which He tackled Sursa, the demon who was blessed to open her mouth as wide as she can and that no one could bypass her without entering into her mouth. Lord Hanuman first kept on increasing His height and then transformed Himself to be the size of a fly. Then He quickly entered into Sursa’s mouth and exited. This way, Sursa’s blessing was also kept and He was able to come out alive from her mouth.
Anything for Guru
One day Hanuman observed Sita applying sindoor or vermillion on her forehead and out of curiosity asked her why. Sita explained the significance of the custom where every married woman applies sindoor to show her unconditional love and respect for her husband and how the vermillion represents her prayers for her husband’s well-being and long life. The naïve Hanuman then smeared sindoor all over himself, thinking if a pinch of sindoor on Sita’s forehead could bring prosperity and long-life to his Lord, then applying sindoor all over himself would extend Ram’s life even more. Rama was touched by his gesture and said that anyone who offers sindoor while worshipping Hanuman will see all their troubles abated.
Guru’s name is Supreme
After Lord Ram became the King, once, when the court was adjourned, Narada – known for creating disharmony, asked Hanuman to greet all the sages except Vishwamitra, since he was a King once. Hanuman did so, but it did not affect Vishwamitra. Narada went on and instigated Vishwamitra, which angered him so much that he went to Ram and asked him to punish Hanuman to death. Vishmamitra being his Guru, Ram could not ignore his command and punished Hanuman to death by arrows. Next day in the field, the statement was to be executed, but all arrows failed to do any harm to Hanuman as he kept chanting Ram! Since Ram had to abide by his Guru’s word, he decided to use the Brahmastra. To the surprise of all, Hanuman’s chants of Ram even failed the most powerful Brahmastra! Seeing this, Narada went to Vishwamitra and confessed his mistake, stopping the ordeal! Guru! The only desire.
When Sita gave Hanuman a beautiful pearl necklace as a gift he politely declined it saying he doesn’t accept anything that is devoid of Ram’s name. To prove his point, the ardent devotee then ripped off his chest to reveal an image of both of them.
Eager to serve Guru’s Order
Arjuna was a skilled archer and was capable of conjuring wonders with his arrows. During the Mahabharata war, he requested Lord Hanuman to be present on his chariot to which Hanuman asked him to prove his mettle. Arjuna then claimed that he could reconstruct the bridge that Rama’s army had built to cross the ocean. Intrigued by his claims, Hanuman challenged him to create a bridge that would be able to withstand his weight. He promised that if Arjuna succeeded in the task, Hanuman would accompany him on his chariot. An eager Arjuna, created the bridge in a jiffy but it collapsed even faster as soon as Hanuman set foot on it. A crestfallen Arjuna approached Lord Krishna who convinced Hanuman that Arjuna should be given another chance. With Krishna’s blessing Arjuna built the bridge again, and this time it did not crumble under Hanuman’s weight.
Hanuman then realized the fact that Krishna was an incarnation of his revered Lord Vishnu and was overwhelmed. He agreed to aid Arjuna in his battles with the Kauravas and thus Arjuna’s chariot featured Hanuman on its flag.
Considering all these facts from the life of Lord Hanuman, He definitely becomes the most revered God. He is the symbol of power, knowledge, true disciple, wisdom, devotion, dedication etc. He can help a person to overcome fear, weakness, getting rid of black magic or evil spirits, gaining confidence and what not.
