This is a month which is entirely dedicated to Lord Shiva. No other God or Goddess have been allotted one complete month in Hindu religion. This is the importance of this month that the entire month can be used by human beings to get rid of all their troubles, pains, poverty, diseases or any other shortcomings and become energized again as does the nature.
A true sadhak is a person who doesn’t bows down to unfavorable conditions but conquers them. We are presenting here four unfailing Sadhanas related to Lord Shiva which if tried with full dedication can being a tremendous outcome in few days. Along with the Sadhanas, we have also shared two divine Dikshas which Gurudev will be granting during this period.
The month of Shravan is the fifth month of the Hindu calender beginning from Chaitra, and is the most auspicious month of the Chaturmas. During the course of the month when the star ‘Shravan’ rules the sky, that particular month is called Shravan. This month is spread out with innumerably religious festivals and almost all the days of this month are auspicious. Shravan is considered the holiest month of the year. Each Monday of this month, known as Shravan Somvar, is a special day to appease Lord Shiva and His wife Goddess Parvati.
The churning of ocean, “Samudra Manthan”, between the Devas (Demi-Gods) and the Danavas (Demons) took place in the month of Shravan. As a result of this churning, fourteen different types of gems emerged out of the ocean.
Thirteen of these were distributed amongst the Devas and Danavas, except the poison, Halahal. It was so poisonous that even if a single drop of this poison would have dropped on the earth, the complete earth would have destroyed. When no one dared to accept this poison, Lord Shiva came forward and drank the poison and stored it in His throat. Hence the name Neelkantha (meaning blue throat) is attributed to Shiva. To reduce the strong effect of poison, Lord Shiva wore the crescent moon on his head. All the Devas, thereafter started offering the Ganges water to Lord Shiva to reduce the effect of poison. Lord Indra too created a heavy rainfall so as to continuously pour water on Lord Shiva and help reduce His body temperature. Ever since this event took place in the month of Shravan, all devotees offer the Ganges water to Lord Shiv especially during this month. It is highly auspicious to wear a Rudrakash in Shravan month. Mondays or Somvars of Shravan month are specially considered very auspicious days. No other Monday of any other months is so greatly honored.
If a person looks carefully around himself during the month of Shravan, he can witness that the entire nature becomes energized again and the surrounding gets filled with greenery in this month. Shravan month follows the harsh summer weather during which every living being gets troubled by the heat. Water bodies get greatly reduced and animals find it difficult to find shades. People don’t feel energetic during this month. However, the month of Shravan brings down heavy rainfall and so the season of fun and romance.
People get out of their homes, they start to get wet and dance in rain, they start enjoying the blessing of the nature. Trees start swaying in air and it appears as if they are dancing in a rhythm. The birds start chirping again, all the animals start to become lively once again. Greenery captures all the place and the dead and the gloomy environment created by the summer season is freed up by Shravan season. People put swings on the branches of trees and sing songs. All in all, this is a month in which a person feels blessed by getting reunited with the nature. If getting reunited with the nature is such a blessing then what not can be achieved by pleasing Lord Shiva, who is Himself the owner of the nature.
We all have some sort of issues in our lives and we try our level best to get over them. However, the best way to get rid of all our existing problems and to keep the problems coming in future at a distance is sadhanas. And what better period can be there to perform these sadhanas than the month of Shravan. Lord Shiva is the main God behind the success of any sadhanas. He has been termed as AdiGuru (i.e. the first Guru) and thus possesses divine powers of all the sadhanas. Lord Shiva is the only God who is a perfect householder. He has a wife, Goddess Parvati, who is all wish fulfiller. He has two sons, Lord Ganesha and Lord Kartikeya. His assistant is mighty Nandi. He possess all the worldly pleasures, yet He is attached to nothing. As it is said, only a person who has himself faced issues can guide another person through that difficult times, similarly Lord Shiva being a householder too, can understand our issues and help us to get them resolved.
Thus Shravan month is the month where a person can get rid of all the issues from the life, it is the month where a person can reincarnate himself, this is the month where a person can attain what all he wishes for in life. Shravan month is a blessed month and worshiping of Lord Shiva during this month has been recommended in our various holy texts live Vedas and Purans.
Intelligent people are those who takes the advantage of any opportunity that comes their way. As rightly said by Shakesphere, “Time is like a man who is bald from behind. You can get hold of him when he is in front of you, however you can’t get hold of time ones it passes by.” It is definitely our fortune that we have the blessings of Revered SadGurudev Ji and who always guides us in our daily life, who grants us the knowledge of Sadhanas and bestows invaluable dikshas up on us. If we look into history, we can observe that many Sadhaks and sages had to serve their Gurus for many years to get the knowledge of even the smallest of Sadhanas, they have to go through tremendous tests prior to obtaining these Sadhanas and we are the fortunate ones who get the knowledge of these Sadhanas by the means of this divine magazine by just sitting at our home.
Do we even understand our fortune? It is up on us to either leverage this golden period and perform Sadhanas to fulfill our desires or to remain just like any normal human being and waste this invaluable time performing normal activities.
It is mandatory to obtain Guru Diksha from Revered Gurudev before performing any Sadhana or taking any other Diksha.
