Long ago, in a land of temples, tall mountains, and shining rivers, there lived two very special lords. Lord Shiva was calm and kind. People called him Mahadev, which means “Great God.” He loved peace and silence. He sat on Mount Kailash, with the cool wind and the white snow all around him. He wore the moon on his head, a snake around his neck, and ashes on his body to remind everyone that life is simple. Shiva listened to prayers from every heart. He cared for everyone – people, animals, rivers, trees, and even the smallest blade of grass.
Lord Saturn, also called Shani Dev, was the Lord of Justice and Time. He moved slowly across the sky, just like the planet Saturn. People said he could see through every lie and every trick. Shani did not come to frighten anyone. He came to help people learn from what they did. If someone did a kind deed, good things came back. If someone did a wrong deed, hard lessons arrived so the person could grow and become better.
But many people did not understand this. They thought Shani only brought trouble. They did not see that he was a teacher. They only saw the homework! This is the story of how Lord Saturn asked Lord Shiva for help and how both of them showed the world a better way to live.
Lord Saturn kept hearing people say, “Oh no, Lord Saturn is coming!” They would whisper, “When Lord Saturn looks at you, everything goes wrong.” Some people even hid or felt scared on Saturdays, the day of Lord Saturn.
Lord Saturn felt sad. He did not want to scare people. He wanted to help them tell the truth, keep promises, share what they had, and work hard without giving up. He wanted them to become strong on the inside, like trees with deep roots.
One quiet morning, as birds sang and the sky turned pink, Lord Saturn stood up from his meditation and said to himself, “I will go to Lord Shiva. He will guide me. He always knows the right path.”
The road to Mount Kailash was long and full of beauty. Lord Saturn walked past green fields where farmers were watering plants. He saw a mother feeding her baby and a teacher helping children read. He saw a boy giving a piece of bread to a hungry dog. Each kind act made Lord Saturn smile.
He also saw a man pushing someone out of the way to reach a bus first. He watched a shopkeeper weigh fruit wrongly to take a little extra money. These things made Lord Saturn serious. “I must help them,” he thought. “But how can I help without making them afraid?”
As he climbed higher and higher, the air became cooler. The sky looked like a giant blue scarf. Snow sparkled like tiny stars on the ground. At last, Lord Saturn reached the place where Lord Shiva sat. Lord Shiva sat quietly at the mouth of a cave. A soft wind played with his hair. The mountains seemed to listen too. Lord Saturn bowed with respect.
“Mahadev,” he said, “I have a problem. Many people think I bring only bad luck. They think my gaze—the way I look at things—causes pain. But I do not want to hurt anyone. I only want to show the truth. If someone did something wrong, I want to help them fix it and learn. If someone did something good, I want to cheer for them in my heart. How can I make people understand?”
Lord Shiva’s eyes were full of kindness. “Lord Saturn,” he said gently, “you are fair and patient. You never act without a reason. Sometimes the truth feels heavy at first but later it helps a person grow stronger. Let us show the world what your gaze really does.” Shiva said, “Lord Saturn, look at me with your full gaze.”
Lord Saturn stepped back. “But, Lord, my gaze wakes up everyone’s karma. Karma is the result of actions—like a diligent effort in our work or business gives us success and growth. Your gaze might become heavy too.” Lord Shiva smiled. “It’s all right,” he said. “Look at me.”
Lord Saturn was careful. He lifted his eyes and looked at Lord Shiva. The air became very still. Even the wind paused to see what would happen. The snow sparkled more brightly, and the mountains stood tall. For a moment, Lord Shiva became very calm and very serious. It was as if he was holding a big book of truths. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He did not look hurt. He looked peaceful. He was simply accepting the truth that Lord Saturn’s gaze showed.
Then Lord Shiva opened his eyes and spoke.
“Lord Saturn,” he said, “your gaze did not harm me. It only woke up the truth that is already there. That is what your gaze does for everyone. You do not create trouble. You help people see what they need to fix. You help them clean their hearts, just like we clean our bodies.” Lord Saturn felt a warm light in his chest. He was relieved. But he still wanted to help people trust him.
Shiva raised his hand and gave five special blessings to Lord Saturn:
“Your power will never be random,” said Lord Shiva. “You will not hurt anyone for no reason. Your gaze will only follow the truth. If a person is honest and kind, your gaze will feel like a gentle hand. If a person is unkind or unfair, your gaze will bring lessons to help them change.”
“When people go through your special times,” Lord Shiva said, “they will learn important things: patience, hard work, keeping promises, speaking kindly, and not giving up.”
“People who try to do the right thing,” said Lord Shiva, “who help the poor, who feed animals, who say sorry when they are wrong—those people will feel protected. Your gaze will guard them like a strong umbrella in the rain.”
“If someone is worried about you,” Lord Shiva explained, “tell them what to do: complete your work on time, tell the truth, pay debts, share food, say thank you, say sorry, and fix mistakes. This is the best way to meet your gaze.”
“I will always stand with you,” Lord Shiva promised. “If people are confused, I will help them see that your lessons are full of care.”
Lord Saturn bowed deeply. “Thank you, Lord,” he said. “Now I know how to help the world better.” Saying these words, Lord Saturn took leave from Mount Kailash and from then on has been diligently serving justice to all the living beings.
