Salutations to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati for whom joyous festivals are performed, who fulfill the wishes of their devotees and whose feet are worshiped by Lord Narayan.
When all of us gets fed up with the heat waves and hotness, the arrival of monsoon brings a new energy into our lives. Everything around us gets so lively, we can see children dancing in the rain, we can see greenery all around ourselves, we can see different birds singing and dancing in the rain. It appears as if the natured gets eager to welcome someone.
Yes, the nature itself welcomes Lord Shiva and we human beings have learnt the same from nature. We all know that this complete month is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the Lord who continuously bestows boons upon everyone – Gods, Demons, human beings, etc.
A very important question has been asked right at the beginning of the Upanishads – Kim Kaarannam Brahm i.e. Who is Brahm, who is said to be the basis of this world? In the later texts, however, the word Brahm is replaced by Rudra and Shiva. The holy texts mention – Ekohi Rudra Sah Shivah i.e. the ruler of this world is one, Rudra, although He is present in every living being. He has created all the living beings and when this world ends, all the souls shall merge within Him.
In other words, this world is but a part of the Rudra form. It is from this form that all souls have emerged and at the end shall merge back into this very form.
Narayan Upanishad addresses Lord Shiva by many names which are as mentioned below:
Shivaaya Namah Shivlingaaya Namah
Bhavaaya Namah Bhavlingaaya Namah
Sharvaaya Namah Sarvalingaaya Namah
Balaaya Namah Balprathnaathaaya Namah.
Aghorebhyoth Ghorebhyo
Ghorghortarebhyah Sarvebhyah Sarvasarvebhyo
Namaste Astu Rudraroopebhyoh.
Eshaan Sarvavidyaanaameeshwarah
Sarvabhootaanaam
Brahmaadhipatirbrahmannodhipartirbrahma
Shivo Me Astu Sadaa Shivom.
Namo Hirannyabaahave
Hirannyavarnnaay Hirannyaroopaay
Hirannyapatayeambikaapataye Umaapataye
Pashupataye Namo Namah.
Lord Krishna explained the greatness of Lord Shiva in Mahabharata. He mentioned that learned people meditate on him as the supreme and eternal truth. He is famous as the lord of attachment. He is supreme of the supreme. He is the one without decay. He is the illustrious God who represents all that is true.
He is without beginning and without destruction. He is the one who knows all truth. He is the lord who is the foremost human.
He is the one who created Brahma, the creator of the worlds, from his right flank. He is the lord who created Vishnu, for the protection of the worlds, from his left flank. When the end of a yuga arrives, he is the lord who creates Rudra from his limbs. Rudra destroys everything in the universe, mobile and immobile. He is the immensely energetic destroyer, the fire of destruction. Lord Mahadeva is the creator of everything in the universe, mobile & immobile. What else can be said about the great Lord who has been praised by Lord Krishna.
Lord Rudra is the Lord of all deities and Gods like Indra. He is the Supreme and He bestows one with intelligence. He has countless name like – Mahadev, Bhav, Divya, Shankar, Shambhu, Pashupati, Umakant, Har, Neelkanth, Ish, Ishaan, Mahesh, Naheswar, Parameshwar, Sarva, Rudra, Maharudra, Trilochan, Viroopaaksh, Vishavaroop, Kaamdev, Kaal, Mahakaal, Kaalvikarna, etc. Shiva means wellbeing, His name Shankar means one who bestows wellbeing. Shiva is Brahm or the Supreme and He is the creator as well as the preserver.
Just as fragrance and a flower, coolness and moon, light and sun co-exist, similarly, Shakti is found with Shiva. Shakti may be in any form – Uma, Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Brahmani, Indrani or MahaKali – all forms are present in the form of Lord Shiva. If Shiva is Purush (man), Uma is Stree (woman). If Shiva is Brahma, Uma is Saraswati, if Shiva is Vishnu, Uma is Lakshmi, if Shiva is sun, Uma is shade, if Shiva is moon, Uma is star, if Shiva is Yagna, Uma is the Yagna pit, if Shiva is fire, Uma is the holy offering. Therefore, Shiva and Shakti are worshiped together. In the Shivalinga too, both Shiva and Shakti are present in the form of Linga and Yoni.
On one hand where Lord Shiva is a symbol of spiritualism, He is a symbol of materialistic world on the other hand. In the material sphere, a person needs everything – a happy family, joy, knowledge, fearlessness, wealth etc. All these are present in totality in Lord Shiva’s family. The divine Goddess, Mother Parvati, is His consort, foremost amongst all Gods Lord Ganpati His son, the commander of the Gods Kartikeya, is His elder son, Riddhi-Siddhi are His daughter-in-law. Shubh-Laabh are His grandsons. Thus, He has everything in life, yet He remains lost in divine joy and without bothering about material comforts, remains clad only in a covering of ash and lives in Himalayas. He possesses everything, yet He is free of infatuation. Where there is Lord Shiva, Mother Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha & Lord Kartikeya and all divine powers are bound to reside at that place.
Where there is Lord Shiva, there is water (Goddess Ganga emerges from His hair) and where there is water, life exists at that place. The month of Shravan is known as the month of Lord Shiva. Just as Shivalinga symbolizes the coming together of male and female energies, similarly, the month of Shravan symbolizes the confluence of sky (Shiva) & the earth (Shakti). In the present age, no Sadhana of Lord Shiva that is accomplished with full devotion, can go fruitless. Wherever there is life, there is Shiva & when it is the month of Shravan, the grace of Lord Shiva showers along with the rains. Lord Shiva is the one who has been worshiped by all, including Gods and demons and all of them were able to attain boons from Him. On one hand, where Lord Ram worshiped Lord Shiva, Ravan too was a great devotee of Lord Shiva.
The month of Shravan also symbolizes love and romance. Shiva is the Lord who showers divine love upon everyone. And once Lord Shiva is pleased upon anyone, for sure blessings of Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganpati, Lord Kartikeya and entire Lord Shiva family blesses such and individual.
Presented below are sadhanas related to Lord Shiva and Mother Goddess Parvati that can provide several boons to the Sadhaks during this holy month of Shravan.

Fourth Monday For A Happy Married Life
Once Lord Shiva & Goddess Parvati were sitting on the Kailash Mountain and were talking casually. Suddenly Lord used the word Kali (which means dark) for Goddess’ complexion. The Goddess felt very bad listening to the word Kali and started to remorse on Her complexion. She then left towards Prabhas area and started to worship Shiva Linga. As Her penance grew, Her complexion also started to become fairer. Soon, all Her body parts gained fair complexion. Then Lord Shiva reached to the worship place and brought Goddess Parvati along with Himself. He also said that whosoever will perform this sadhana will get blessed with beauty, good physique, hypnotic power, wealth, fame and household pleasures.
This sadhana of Lord Shiva can be performed by both man & woman. On one hand where a woman gains beauty and charm, man gains great health & physique, hypnotic power & command in the society. If a person is a businessman and there is no expected progress in the business, then the business starts flourishing. Even household life of such an individual becomes a blessing. One can even create the same bond of love that ever existed between the couple who now desperately want to get a divorced.
