A person who worships me during Shaardiye Navraatri gets blessed will wealth, animals, children, worldly possessions and all his troubles gets resolved.
It is important to understand here that a sadhak is blessed with both Bhukti i.e. worldly possessions as well as Mukti i.e. nirvana. In the above hymn, the Mother Goddess is blessing all the sadhaks with all the worldly possessions.
Two Navraatris are considered most auspicious during the entire year. The one at the onset of winters and other at the beginning of Hindu new year. The seven hundred hymns mentioned in Durga Shaptasati explain the forms of Goddess MahaKali, Goddess MahaSaraswati and Goddess MahaLakshmi. Prior to starting the Durga Shaptasati, it is mandatory to chant Navaarna Mantra.
Meaning of Navaraatri
Word Navaraatri is composed of two words, Nava + Ratrai. Nava means number nine and Raatri means time. Thus, the word Navraatri has an excellent amalgamation of number and time within itself. We keep the lamp continuously lit for the nine nights during Navaraartis to remove the effect of darkness from our life. It is important to understand that the number 9 is a symbol of Brahma too. If we add the digits of any number that gets multiplied by 9, then the sum would be 9 only e.g. 9×5 = 45 ; 4 + 5 = 9, 3×9 = 27; 2 + 7 = 9 etc. Thus, if any number that gets multiplied by this number 9, it in a way becomes number 9. Similarly, once a person can understand Brahma, he or she becomes Brahma.
As per Hindu Shastra, there are 360 days in a year. If we divide this number by 9, we get a value of 40. As per Tantrik Shastras, number 40 holds a special significance and is called Mandala. Any special worship or sadhana should be performed for 40 days to attain complete success in it. If we further divide the number 40 by 10, then we are left with number 4 and this corresponds to the four Navaraatris that comes within a year. These are Chaitra Navaraatri, Aashaardha Navaraatri, Aashwin Navaraatri and Pausha Navaraatri.
These Navaraartis are symbol of the four aspects of human life – Dharma, Artha, Kaam and Moksha. Dharma is associated with Artha and Kaam is associated with Moksha. Thus, broadly speaking there are two major Navaraatris – Chaitra Navaraarti and Aashwin or Shaardiya Navaraatri.
Navaarna Mantra
|| Ayieng Hreeng Kleeng Chaamundaayai Vichche ||
It is important for the sadhak to understand the meaning of the mantra they are reciting. If we understand what we are reciting, we can chant it out from our heart and soul. This manifold increases the possibility of success as sadhanas are something that are done through devotion.
Ayieng – This is the main mantra associated with Goddess Saraswati. This letter is a prayer to Goddess Saraswati to remove all our sorrows.
Hreeng – This is the mantra associated with Goddess Bhuvaneshwari. This letter is a prayer to Goddess MahaLakshmi to nurture us.
Kleeng – This is the mantra associated with Goddess MahaKali. This letter is a prayer to Goddess Kali to protect us.
Chaamundaayai – This word means the Goddess Chaamundaa who is pure, true and full of joy.
Vichche – This word means one who is to be thought about.
Thus, the complete meaning of Navaarna mantra is – We worship the Goddess to understand Goddess MahaLakshmi, Goddess MahaKali and Goddess MahaSaraswati and to get their blessings. This form of energy is the purest and we want to assimilate this energy within ourselves.
While understanding the Navaarna mantra, it is equally important to understand the significance of the SadGuru in the life of the disciple. One can attain success in sadhana, mantra, tantra and everything only by the means of a SadGuru.
